W&J's Wan, Westminster's Hergenrother Honored as PAC SAAC Scholar-Athletes for December

TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – For the month of December, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) honors Washington & Jefferson College junior Jaden Wan and Westminster College senior Mick Hergenrother as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar Athletes of the Month.

Each month, the PAC selects an upperclass male and a female student-athlete that has earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) higher than 3.0, participates in a varsity sport, and participates in extracurricular activities on their campuses. These student-athletes portray the elite standard of their schools, the PAC, and the SAAC.

From Newton, Pa., Jaden Wan is the female December SAAC student-athlete of the month.

Wan has earned a GPA of 3.78 as a junior biology major at Washington & Jefferson.

Throughout her time at W&J, Wan has accumulated multiple academic awards. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society; a fellows program Thrive Scholar recipient; a Temple Medical Scholars Program member; a Rule, Hughes, Murphy Award Recipient; a Beta Scholar, and recognized on the Dean’s list. 

Showing her athletic abilities, Wan has played in a total of 58 basketball games for the Presidents, scoring 347 points and grabbing 172 rebounds. This season, she has averaged 7.3 points per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field and 45 percent from the three-point range. Her season high score of 14 points was accomplished on December 17th against Carnegie Mellon.

In her spare time, Wan is the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President, NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Member, Student Government Association Representative and Finance Committee, Special Olympics Club Unified Sports Chair, and member of the Asian Culture Association Executive Board. 

Additionally, Wan serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). She delivers emergency medical care and first aid to patients, ensuring an effective response, conducting daily inspections, maintaining equipment, and following safety protocols. She facilitates patient transfers and helps with documentation.  

Female December honorable mention nominees included: Bethany’s Alyssa Ott (basketball); Waynesburg's Clara-Paige Miller (basketball); Westminster's Maddy McClain (swimming & diving).

Mick Hergenrother from Canfield, Ohio, is the male December SAAC student-athlete of the month.

Hergenrother is a senior at Westminster, majoring in accounting with a minor in data analytics, earning a GPA of 3.844.

Off the basketball court, Hergenrother has been recognized on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team twice, the Dean’s List for four semesters, PAC Spring Academic Honor Roll twice, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court. 

The Titan basketball player averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals in five December games. Against Alma on December 17th, the senior finished with 13 points, assisting his team to a 100-point game for the second time this season, while adding four steals. Another notable game was against Albion. He played a total of 24 minutes, made three field goals to score eight points and also posted two rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

On campus, Hergenrother is a peer tutor for accounting, general business, and multiple computer science courses. He participated in Westminster's service-learning program “Spring Break with a Purpose” program led by the Office of Faith and Spirituality. He traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, and worked as a volunteer to aid with hurricane clean-up and relief, serving communities during their time of need.
