NEW ORLEANS, La. – Washington & Jefferson College senior Claire Anderson (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) has been named the 2026 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, announced by the organization Thursday (May 28).
Anderson is the first W&J and Presidents' Athletic Conference athlete to be named the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Earlier in the academic year, she was named the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming the first runner in Washington & Jefferson program history to earn the honor in back-to-back years.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Anderson recently capped her collegiate career with a pair of First Team All-America performances at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She placed third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:18.15 before finishing sixth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:36.23.
The two All-America finishes marked the first time a Washington & Jefferson track & field student-athlete earned All-America honors in multiple events at the same national championship since Cheyenne Mangold accomplished the feat during the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Anderson also became the first runner in program history to earn All-America recognition in the 5,000-meter run.
During the outdoor season, Anderson established herself among the nation's elite distance runners. Her school-record time of 34:07.20 in the 10,000 meters at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Division I Bucknell University ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic Region and currently stands as the 25th-fastest performance in NCAA Division III history.
At the 2026 PAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Anderson captured conference titles in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs while setting conference records in each event. Her winning time of 16:33.88 in the 5,000 meters ranked second in the region, while her performance of 4:34.27 in the 1,500 meters at the Marty Goldberg Invitational placed her eighth in the region.
Anderson closes her career as one of the most accomplished distance runners in W&J history, adding the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year award to an extensive list of conference, regional and national honors.
