Allegheny Wins Fourth Straight PAC Men's Tennis Title

TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Allegheny College won its fourth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Tennis Tournament championship with a 4-0 victory over Grove City College Monday afternoon at Allegheny's Robertson Tennis Complex.

In addition to being their fourth consecutive men's tennis title, it was also the Gators' eighth men's championship in program history. Allegheny's four straight crowns in the longest streak by a team since Grove City captured 26 in a row between 1991-2016.

As the winner of the PAC Tournament, Allegheny also earns the conference's automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship for the fourth year in a row. Team selections for the Division III Championships will be released Monday, May 4th with first-, second- and third-round matches slated for Friday-Sunday, May 8-10.


PAC Championship - Meadville, Pa.
No. 1 Allegheny 4, No. 2 Grove City 0
- Allegheny took the opening point following victories at first and third doubles. The first win came at No. 1 by a 6-1 score by sophomore Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István) and
 sophomore Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium).
- The clinching decison was a 6-0 win at No. 3 by senior David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) and freshman Zidaan Hassan (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) and the Gators had a 1-0 lead going into singles.
- The first decision to go to the Gators in singles was at No. 6 where Hassan won 6-0, 6-1, which was followed by Rodriguez scoring a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3
- The championship-clinching win occured at No. 4 singles, where junior Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) closed out a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

PAC Championship Match Notes
- Allegheny's record moved to 17-7 this year with the title win, the Gators fourth consecutive year with 16 or more wins.
- Since rejoining the PAC in the 2022-23 academic year, Allegheny has not lost to a PAC team and now own a 40-match winning streak in regular season and tournament play against conference opponents.
- Rodriguez was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament after his two wins in Monday's clinching victory.
- Joininig Rodriguez on the All-Tournament Team wasa Bejarano Jimenez and Erkens.
- Jimenez also had the final win in last year's PAC Tournament Championship Match victory against Grove City.
- Grove City finished the year with a 9-5 record, the Wolverines' sixth consecutive year with at least nine wins.
- This was Grove City's seventh straight year in the PAC Championship, a streak which began when the conference implemented a team championship bracket format starting in the 2019 season.
- Earning All-Tournament Team honors for Grove City was senior Isaac DeMan (Rickford, Mich./Rockford), who won in singles and doubles in the semifinal victory over Franciscan, and sophomore Allen Morris (Perry, Ohio/Perry).
