GENEVA, N.Y. (pacathletics.org) - The Grove City College women's lacrosse team closed the 2026 season Saturday afternoon by dropping an 18-3 decision to New England powerhouse Williams (10-7) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by William Smith College at Urick Stadium.
Junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler), junior attack Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and sophomore midfielder Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) all scored for the Wolverines (16-4). Stevenson and junior midfielder Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) both recorded assists.
Williams, one of six members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) to qualify for the 47-team tournament field, led 5-0 after the first quarter. Stevenson broke through with a goal at 8:41 of the second quarter for Grove City.
Stevenson then assisted Shilling's power play goal 5:40 into the third quarter. Mygatt scored an unassisted goal in the final period.
Freshman defender Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) caused seven turnovers while senior defender Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) and freshman midfielder Avery Anderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) both caused three turnovers. Hallam also recorded four draw controls and a team-leading four ground balls. Hasley picked up three ground balls.
Senior goalie Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) stopped 10 shots.
Williams owned a 34-12 edge in total shots. Grove City committed 25 turnovers while the Ephs turned over possession 19 times.
Williams will now face William Smith in the second round of the tournament Sunday.
This marked Grove City's third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wolverines will graduate Gallagher, Hasley, senior midfielder Haylie Porter (Jenks, Okla./Jenks), senior attack Grace Forry (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and senior attack Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir).
Grove City's 16 wins are a single-season program record.
