Grove City Repeats as PAC Men's Track and Field Champion

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (pacathletics.org) - The Grove City College men's track and field team captured its second straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title Friday evening by scoring 164 team points during the two-day championships held at West Virginia University's Mylan Park. 

It was also the 21st title in Wolverine program history, as they finished in front of runner-up Washington & Jefferson College, who scored 146 points, while Geneva College finished third with 103. Earning fourth place was Waynesburg University with 81, followed by Allegheny College (58), Westminster College (57), Bethany College (44), Saint Vincent College (36), Chatham University (33), Franciscan University (17) and Thiel College (2).

Grove City's championship effort was led by sophomore Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian), who earned the meet's Most Valuable Performer award as well as the Track MVP honor after accumulating 25.5 individual points. Mitchell won the 200 meters in a time of 21.61 seconds and won the 400 in a conference- and school-record time of 48.02 seconds.

He also contributed to Grove City's victory in the 1600 relay by joining sophomore Isaac Young (Jordan, Minn./Jordan), senior Tyler Eagan (Concord, N.C.) and sophomore Isaac Busler (Butler, Pa./Butler) to post a winning time of 3:25.69. In addition, Mitchell ran on the second place 4x100 relay team.

W&J senior Nate Sciarro (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) earned Field MVP honors for a third time in his career. Sciarro took home the PAC long jump title with a season-best mark of 6.93 meters (22-9) and added a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.83 meters (6-0). 

The PAC Newcomer of the Year award went to Bethany freshman Caliyph McClinton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Neighborhood Academy). McClinton finished third in the 100m, fourth in the 200m and was the anchor for the men's 4x100m, which earned a PAC Championship with a time of 42.24.

The Coach of the Year award went to Grove City head coach Jessica Cooper. She earned the honor for the second year in a row after leading the Wolverines to the repeat championship.

The PAC also released its 2024 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Sportsmanship Team (linked above). The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams and student-athletes.
