PAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships Set for YSU Thursday 2/21/2024 1:00:00 PM TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The 2024 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held this Thursday, February 22nd, at Youngstown State University’s Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). In anticipation of the event, the PAC announced its men's indoor track and field pre-championships coaches' polls and Athletes to Watch, listed below. Field events will begin at 10:30 a.m. Track events will get underway at approximately 3 p.m. Admission to Thursday's PAC Championship is $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID/children ages 5-12 (current college, high school, grade school IDs must be valid and shown upon request. Children under 5 are free. There will also be a $5 parking fee for spectators. Youngstown State Campus Map/Parking Areas Spectators must remain outside of the track and the infield to observe the meet. At no time are spectators allowed on the track lanes or infield. Please use the bleachers. All non-competing student-athletes are asked to remain in the designated roped off area. With five first place votes and 85 total points received, Grove City College earned the top position in the polling. Defending champion Washington & Jefferson College was a close second with 82 points and three first-place votes, while Allegheny College, with one first place vote and 68 points, placed third, and Geneva College gathered 64 points and the final first-place vote to come in fourth place. In winning their first PAC title in program history, W&J totaled 127 points and had one individual championship and the 4x400 relay title at the 2023 Championship meet, which saw six PAC records broken. Geneva finished second in team points with 106, while Grove City was third with 99 points. All three major award winners from last year's Championships return this year to compete. Headlining the Athletes to Watch list is Geneva junior Kevin Arseneaux, who was the PAC Track Athlete and Overall Track & Field MVP after he set new conference records while winning the 800 and 1 Mile and he also finished second in the 3000m. Also back this year is the 2023 Field Athlete of the Year in W&J junior Nate Sciarro, who repeated as PAC champion in the long jump and placed second in the triple jump, while Grove City sophomore Alex Mitchell was the Newcomer of the Year after he won the 400m with a new conference-record time and took second in the 200m. In addition to the three award winners, four others who won PAC individual titles will be trying to repeat their championship efforts Thursday. They include Waynesburg senior Isaiah Mathews in the 60m, Westminster graduate student Ryan Beard in the 200m, Geneva graduate student Jack Garvin in the high jump and Grove City senior Nick Gustafson in the shot put. Coming into the 2024 PAC Championships, six of the seven returning champions are seeded first on the current PAC Performance List, including Beard (200m), Mitchell (400m), Arseneaux (1 Mile), Garvin (high jump), Sciarro (long jump) and Gustafson (shot put), while Mathews is seeded second in the 60m. At the conclusion of Thursday’s championships, the PAC will recognize its team champions, as well the event's Most Outstanding Performers (overall, track, field), Newcomers of the Year, Coaches of the Year and Sportsmanship Team honorees. The NCAA Division III Championships are slated for Friday-Saturday, March 8-9 and will be held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Division III National Qualifiers For each men’s individual event contested (including the heptathlon), the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared teams will be accepted into the competition.
