TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its 2024 All-PAC women's volleyball teams and conference award winners Tuesday evening. The league's 11 head coaches voted to determine this year's All-PAC teams and annual award winners.

The All-PAC teams and award winners were announced on a selection show broadcast by the PAC Sports Network. To view the archived broadcast, Click Here.

This year's major award winners in the conference included Allegheny senior middle hitter Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo. | Dawson School), who was voted the PAC Player of the Year, and teammate junior libero Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico | Gallatin-Tenn.), who was named PAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Saint Vincent freshman outside hitter Meegan Williams (Homer City, Pa. | Homer Center) received the PAC Newcomer of the Year award.

PAC Coach of the Year honors went to Allegheny head coach Kelly Barzak

Javes is the first Allegheny player to receive PAC Player of the Year honors and the fourth in program history following Molly Dietz, who received the honor three times in the North Coast Athletic Conference (1989, 1990, 1991). In addition to Player of the Year honors, Javes also helped Allegheny capture the PAC Women's Volleyball title when the top-seeded Gators scored a 3-0 victory over second-seeded Saint Vincent on Saturday night. It was Allegheny's first PAC title since rejoining the league in 2022 and their first conference championship since winning the NCAC in 1991.

Javes has posted a .345 hitting percentage to this point with 138 kills (3.94/set). The senior middle notched double-digit kill numbers in nine out of ten conference matches with a high of 21 kills (hitting .415) against Bethany on October 11. An offensive force, she scored 161.5 total points for the Gators while averaging 4.61 points per set, ranking her second in the league on the season. Javes was named PAC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season.

For the second year in a row, Diaz is a First Team selection and the Defensive Player of the Year. She brought up 634 total digs in regular season play, with 198 digs in conference matches. Ranking ninth in the conference with 5.66 digs per set in PAC matches, Diaz currently ranks tenth in the country with 6.02 digs per set. Diaz had 17 matches with 20+ digs this season, posting seven matches with 30 or more, highlighted by a season-high 38 in a four-set victory over Bethany on October 11. Averaging 6.67 digs per set in PAC Championship Tournament play, Diaz went on to be named to the PAC All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row.

In earning PAC Newcomer of the Year, Williams is the first Saint Vincent volleyball player to bear the title. Williams enjoyed a stellar initial season for the Bearcats, which saw her average 3.59 kills per set, good for fourth in the PAC, with 140 kills in 10 conference regular season matches. In addition to averaging 4.0 points per set, good for fourth in the conference, Williams made her mark defensively, averaging 4.36 digs per set. Williams posted 13 double-doubles in the regular season, with eight in regular season conference matches, and was named PAC Newcomer of the Week five times.

This is the first Coach of Year award for Barzak, who just completed her seventh year leading the Allegheny program. The Gators finished the regular season with a 26-5 overall record, going a perfect 10-0 in PAC play and then continuing on to capture their first PAC title. The 26 wins marked the most in a season since 2003, and it was their first undefeated conference season since 1994.

As this year's championship tournament winner, Allegheny earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship. The Gators will go on the road to face East Texas Baptist in the NCAA Tournament first round Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Christopher Newport Regional. It will be Allegheny's fifth all-time appearance in the Division III Championship, and their first since 1991.

The PAC also released its 2024 PAC Sportsmanship Team. The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams.
