Grove City Wins 20th PAC Men's Track & Field Title

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Grove City College men's outdoor track and field team captured the program's 20th all-time Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship, as the two-day championship event was held Thursday and Friday at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.Va.

The Wolverines amassed 167 team points to outdistance second-place Geneva College, who scored 110 points. Washington & Jefferson College was third with 101 points, Westminster College placed fourth with 96 points and was followed by Allegheny College (78), Franciscan University (56), Saint Vincent College (47), Thiel College (42), Waynesburg University (20), Bethany College (13) and Chatham University (eight).

Headlining Grove City's championship efforts were a pair of Wolverines who won major conference awards at the end of the meet. Junior Gabe Dunlap (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) captured Field Most Valuable Performer recognition after he scored in five field events at the two-day event.

He earned third in the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 6 inches, while also taking third in the triple jump with a best leap of 42-7.5. Dunlap also finished sixth in the pole vault (11-2 1/4), sixth in the javelin (167-2), seventh in the high jump (5-7) and would also run a leg on Grove City's third-place 4x100 relay team, which produced a time of 43.31 seconds.

Dunlap's freshman teammate Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) earned the league's Newcomer of the Year. 
Mitchell won the 400 in a conference-record time of 48.50 seconds and would also take third in the 200 (22.10) and eighth in the 100 (15.35). Mitchell closed the meet by running on Grove City's third-place 4x400 relay, which posted a time of 3:28.02.

One more award was earned by Grove City, as head coach Jessica Smith earned PAC Coach of the Year.

Another top award went to Saint Vincent junior Tim Patterson (Butler, Pa./Butler), who was named the PAC's 2023 Track Most Valuable Performer, the first student-athlete in Saint Vincent history to earn the honor. He won the 10,000 on the first evening of the Championships (32:49.71) and opened up the second day with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 10:00.97. Patterson would then close out his meet by winning the 5,000 in a time of 15:18.13.

The final major award was collected by Westminster College senior Jacob Patton (Harrisville, Pa./Moniteau), who was named the Most Outstanding Overall Performer for the second straight year. Patton earned individual first-place finishes in the 110 hurdles (14.79) and the 400 hurdles (54.31) and also anchored the first-place 4x100 relay (42.66) and second-place 4x400 relay (3:22.67).
