Week 5 PAC Honors (for games played March 20-26)
The weekly award winners have been recognized for their performances during Week 5 of the 2023 season.
 
PAC Hitter of the Week
Jake Bredl • Chatham • Junior utility • Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler
Bredl batted .476 (10-21), drove in 14 and scored seven runs, as Chatham went 4-1, including a sweep over Thiel to open PAC play … In a 14-2 win over Penn State-Altoona Monday, he had two hits, two RBIs and scored one … The next day in a game-one win over Pitt-Greensburg, Bredl was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple, knocked in five and scored twice … On Sunday, he opened the Thiel twinbill with two doubles, six RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases in a 14-7 win, then hit an RBI single and scored once in a 13-7 triumph in the second game.

Allegheny sophomore Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) had a single and a walk in win over #3 Baldwin Wallace and then went 3-for-5 with a triple, homer and two RBIs in 3-1 victory over Franciscan … Bethany senior Colton Stoneman (West Farmington, Ohio/Labrae Local) went 4-for-10 with two runs scored and two RBIs in three games last week … Grove City junior Lucca Baccari (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, four runs batted in, a triple and four walks Monday in a doubleheader sweep at La Roche … Thiel junior Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) had two doubles and three RBIs in win over La Roche and belted a two-run homer in game two against Chatham … W&J senior Tyler Horvat (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) hit. 381 in a 4-2 week in Florida, which included going 4-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs scored in a DH sweep over Wooster … Waynesburg junior Nolan Vertullo (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) went 2-for-3 in game one at Wittenberg and had three hits as well as a walk in the doubleheader … Westminster junior Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa./Central Valley) went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-12 loss at Pitt-Greensburg.
   
PAC Pitcher of the Week
Bobby Kusinsky • Allegheny • Senior • Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford  
Kusinsky earned the win after not allowing an earned run in a season-high eight innings in Allegheny’s 3-1 game-one victory over Franciscan Sunday … He scattered two hits and three walks while striking out a season-high eight batters … Kusinsky faced the minimum in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings and fielded his position well in the victory, recording four assists.

Chatham sophomore Drew Schreck (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) threw six scoreless innings and struck out six to earn the win in a 14-2 victory over Penn State-Altoona … Franciscan senior Jacob Watson (Arlington, Texas/Nolan Catholic) made two starts last week and struck out 11 while allowing two runs and six hits over 10 innings of work … Grove City senior Tate Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) struck out seven in five scoreless innings to earn the win in a 7-4 victory over La Roche … Thiel senior Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started twice last week and allowed just two earned runs while striking out nine over 8 2/3 innings … W&J sophomore Ethan Marszalek (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) posted six shutout innings in 4-0 win over Keuka, allowing just two hits while striking out seven as he carried a no-hitter into the sixth.
 
PAC Rookie of the Week
Nick Sampson • Grove City • Freshman outfielder • Venetia, Pa./Peters Township  
Sampson went 4-for-7 and reached base in seven of his 10 plate appearances in Grove City’s sweep last Monday at La Roche … In a 7-4 win in game one, he went 3-for-5 and scored a run … In game two, a 16-2 Wolverines victory, Sampson drew a bases-loaded walk and laced a two-run double in the first three innings to help Grove City take a big lead … He finished the game 1-for-2 with three walks, three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Bethany freshman CJ Owens (Austin, Texas/Elgin) belted a three-run homer in game one against Pitt-Greensburg Monday … Geneva freshman Ryan Conover (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) earned a win over Clarks Summit Monday, pitching six innings while giving up just two hits and one unearned run and striking out eight … Franciscan sophomore Jack Froman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Homeschooled) went 3-for-7 in the sweep over Penn State-Beaver, which included a solo homer, his first collegiate home run, to lead off game one … Thiel freshman Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Vernon) posted six hits, including a double, drew four walks, drove in two and stole a base in six games last week … W&J freshman Nate Nolan (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) earned his first collegiate victory Monday by tossing four scoreless innings, as he struck out three and scattered four hits, to aid W&J in the doubleheader sweep … Waynesburg freshman Gavin Pratt (Carmichaels, Pa./Carmichaels Area) had a double and scored once in game two at Wittenberg and scored a run in the 7-6 win over Wilson.
