The weekly award winners have been recognized for their performances during Week 11 of the 2022 season.
 

PAC Hitter of the Week

Roman Samson • Washington & Jefferson • Sophomore outfielder • Tampa, Fla. | Berkeley Prep.  Samson hit .583 (7-12) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored in W&J’s three-game weekend sweep of Thiel… Four of his seven hits went for extra bases… Samson totaled 15 bases while posting an on-base percentage of .643 and a slugging percentage of 1.250… In Saturday’s 8-4 game two victory at Thiel he went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored… Through 35 games (35 starts) Samson is hitting .322 with eight home runs, four triples, nine doubles, 32 RBIs and 27 runs scored… His .678 slugging percentage ranks fourth in the PAC while his 78 total bases rank fifth.

Bethany junior Cory Newman (Gibsonia, Pa. | Deer Lakes) hit .500 last week with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored… He went 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts… Chatham junior Brandon Griener (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Brentwood) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in Saturday’s game one win at Grove City… Franciscan junior Brendan Burke (Pinckney, Mich. | Detroit Catholic Central) hit .450 last week with three doubles, a home run, eight RBIs and five runs scored… He established a new school record for RBIs in a season (43) last week… Burke had at least a hit in each of Franciscan’s five games… Sophomore Markus Williams (Sewickley, Pa. | Eden Christian) hit .500 in Grove City’s three-game series win over Chatham… He went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in Saturday’s game two win… Thiel senior Anthony Rago (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Baldwin) hit .304 last week with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored… He hit his fifth home run of the season in Saturday’s game one loss to W&J… Rago owns a 13-game hitting streak and leads the PAC with a .448 batting average… Waynesburg senior Tyler Woodrow (Gibsonia, Pa. | Pine-Richland) hit .571 with a double and four runs scored in last week’s series win over Bethany… Westminster sophomore Carter Chinn (Grove City, Pa. | Grove City) hit .667 last week with a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored… He hit his first career home run in Saturday’s game one win against Saint Vincent.

   

PAC Pitcher of the Week

Tate Ostrowski • Grove City • Senior • Essex, Mass. | Covenant Christian     Ostrowski struck out a career-high 13 men in Friday night’s 4-1 nine-inning, complete-game victory at Chatham… He allowed one run (0 earned) on three hits with two walks… Ostrowski lowered his league-best ERA to 1.67 and leads the loop with 80 strikeouts… He is 7-1 this spring.

Bethany junior Zach Nolf (Hubbard, Ohio | McDonald) picked up his fifth and sixth saves of the season last week… Franciscan senior Daniel Halsey (Concord, Calif. | De La Salle) was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in a pair of relief appearances last week… He threw 3.0 scoreless relief innings to secure his first victory of the season in Wednesday’s win at Chatham… He owns a team-best 1.35 ERA… Thiel sophomore Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio | Edgewood) worked 9.1 innings over two appearances (1 start) last week… He threw a season-high 7.0 innings and allowed five runs (5 earned) on 11 hits with three strikeouts in Saturday’s game two loss to W&J… Junior Tyler Horvat (Irwin, Pa. | Penn-Trafford) tossed 7.0 innings in W&J’s game two victory at Thiel Saturday, allowing one run (1 earned) on three hits while striking out six… He is 6-1 this season… Westminster first-year Jake Vitale (New Castle, Pa. | Union) earned his fourth victory of the season in game one Saturday against Saint Vincent, allowing two runs (1 earned) on six hits with six strikeouts in the complete game.

 

PAC Rookie of the Week

Derek Black • Bethany • Freshman infielder • Wheeling, W.Va. | John Marshall     Black hit .636 (7-11) last week with a double, a triple, seven RBIs and seven runs scored for 2-3 Bethany… He posted a .714 on-base percentage and slugged .909… In Friday’s 12-10 loss at Waynesburg, Black went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and one run scored… He is hitting .500 this spring.

Chatham first-year Drew Schreck (Lodi, Ohio | Cloverleaf) worked 6.1 relief innings to secure the victory in Tuesday’s game two win over Geneva… He allowed three runs (0 earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks… Geneva freshman Jeff Hawkins (Severn, Md. | Mount Saint Joseph) earned Saturday’s game two win against Franciscan, allowing one run (0 earned) on one hit in 6.0 relief innings… Freshman Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa. | Eden Christian) hit .357 with two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored in Grove City's three-game weekend series with Chatham… Thiel freshman Conner Lewis (Salineville, Ohio | Southern Local) reached base in both of his plate appearances Sunday against W&J with a single and a walk… He also scored a run… Freshman Jacob DeLuca (Clarence, N.Y. | Canisius) went 3-for-6 in W&J’s three-game sweep of Thiel… He had a pair of RBIs and scored three runs… Waynesburg freshman Alec Engelmore (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Shaler) hit .462 with two doubles, two triples, five RBIs and two runs scored in last week’s series win over Bethany… He also went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in two relief appearances… Westminster first-year Ryan Gibbons (Ellwood City, Pa. | Lincoln) threw 5.0 innings in a no-decision during Saturday’s game two win over Saint Vincent… He allowed three runs (3 earned) on six hits with five strikeouts… His 2.61 ERA this spring ranks fifth in the league.
