Franciscan men claim third-straight PAC cross country title Franciscan's Miguel Daez earns runner of the year honors 10/29/2022 6:50:00 PM LATROBE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Franciscan University earned its third-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) men's cross country team title Saturday. Saint Vincent College hosted this year's men's and women's championship races. Saint Vincent last hosted the PAC Championships in 2016. This year’s championship race was the 65th for the men. Franciscan totaled 41 points in the eight-kilometer (8K) event. Franciscan's five scoring runners placed in the top 16 finishers of the 10-team, 122-runner field. Franciscan's current three-year championship run is the league's best since Saint Vincent secured seven-straight conference titles between 2010-2016. Allegheny College, in its first PAC championship race since 1983, finished as the runner-up with 56 points. Geneva College was third with 67 points and was followed by Saint Vincenti in fourth with 80 points. Grove City College was fifth (114), Washington & Jefferson College was sixth (132), Waynesburg University was seventh (211), Thiel College was eighth (246), Chatham University was ninth (272) and Westminster College was 10th (293). Bethany College had four runners compete as individuals. Franciscan senior Miguel Daez (Sterling, Va. | Holy Family Homeschool) earned the event's individual title and PAC Runner of the Year honors after posting a winning time of 25 minutes, 27.07 seconds. Daez finished as the runner-up in 2021. Daez is Franciscan's third-straight PAC Runner of the Year honoree (Liam Galligan, spring 2021 and fall 2021). Saint Vincent junior Tim Patterson (Butler, Pa. | Butler) was this year's runner-up, posting a time of 25:55.66. Saint Vincent freshman Brady Sundin (Monroeville, Pa. | Gateway) was recognized as the PAC Newcomer of the Year. He finished in ninth place with a time of 26:37.43. Franciscan head coach Dr. Dan Kuebler was voted the league's Coach of the Year for the second time (spring 2021). The top seven finishers receive All-PAC First Team recognition, while runners finishing eighth through 14th earn All-PAC Second Team honors. Runners finishing 15th through 21st receive All-PAC Honorable Mention recognition. The 10 NCAA Division III regional championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 12. Bethany, Chatham, Geneva, Grove City, Saint Vincent, Thiel, W&J, Waynesburg and Westminster will compete in the Mid-Atlantic region, while Allegheny and Franciscan will compete in the Great Lakes region. Susquehanna will host the Division III Mid-Atlantic Championships at Lock Haven's West Branch Cross Country Course. Hope will host the Division III Great Lakes Championships at the West Ottawa Golf Club in Holland, Michigan. The Division III Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 in Lansing, Michigan. Olivet will host the national championships at Forest Akers East Golf Course.
