WASHINGTON, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Washington & Jefferson College will take on Grove City College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Baseball Tournament Championship Game Saturday after both advanced out of Friday's action at Ross Memorial Park.
The second-seeded Presidents moved on with a 7-4 victory over No. 6 Chatham University in Game H to go straight into the title game. Fifth-seeded Grove City needed to edge Bethany College 8-7 in Game G in the opening game of the day. The Wolverines than rallied to get past Chatham in Game I by a 7-5 count in 10 innings to punch their ticket to the championship game.

The PAC Championship Tournament winner will also claim the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Selections for the Division III Championship are scheduled to be announced Monday, May 11 with regional preliminary round play slated for Friday-Sunday, May 15-17.
Game G - No. 5 Grove City 8, No. 4 Bethany 7
- Grove City (21-17) plated eight runs between the third and fourth innings and held off a Bethany rally for an 8-7 victory to advance to Friday's 6 pm game and eliminate the Bison (26-17).
- Bethany scored twice in the first inning, but the Wolverines took the lead with five in the third inning and three more in the fourth frame for an 8-2 lead.
- Left fielder Dan Luko had a big hand in both Grove City innings, hitting a two-run, ground-rule double in the third and belting a three-run homer in the fourth.
- The Bison chipped away at that margin the rest of the game, scoring twice in the fifth and solo runs in the sixth and eight to get within 8-6.
- In the ninth inning, Bethany scored one and loaded the bases with two outs, but Grove City reliever Graham Romer induced a fly out for the final out to close out the win.
- Romer earned the save for Wolverines' reliever Corey Veverka, who earned the victory after he allowed three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
- Luko swung the big bat for Grove City, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored, while first baseman Colin Marinpetro drove in a pair.
- Bethany posted 10 hits in the match-up, with DH Marco Gonzalez going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and center fielder Niko Heidt had two hits, two run scored and one RBI.
Game H - No. 2 W&J 7, No. 6 Chatham 4
- W&J (31-11) put up five early runs and survived a mid-game charge by Chatham to post a 7-4 victory to move into Saturday's championship game.
- A two-run single in the first by W&J first baseman Jack Anderson and a two-run sacrifice fly by second baseman Teddy Platt in the second helped push the Presidents to a 5-0 lead.
- Chatham got right back in the game in the sixth when third baseman Cooper Baxter launched a grand slam, his third homer in three days, and the Cougars were within a run at 5-4.
- The Presidents built their lead back to 7-4 on an RBI double by third baseman Seth Rosenfeld in the sixth and a Rosenfeld run-scoring single in the eighth.
- W&J closer Luke Alvarez protected the lead with three scoreless innings to earn the save, as he only allowed one hit and struck out three.
- The pitching win went to W&J's Anthony Pass, who threw five scoreless innings to start before Chatham's slam in the sixth.
- The Presidents totaled 13 hits in the win, with Rosenfeld going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Anderson posting two hits and two RBIs and Platt knocked in three.
- Angelo DeLeonardis and Nolan Boehm had two hits each for Chatham and Baxter had four RBIs.
Game I - No. 5 Grove City 7, No. 6 Chatham 5, 10 inn.
- Grove City (22-17) rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings and then pulled out a 7-5 victory in 10 innings over Chatham (30-14) to advance into Saturday's final.
- A two-run single by catcher Matt Brandt sparked a four-run second inning and Chatham added a solo run in the third to build a 5-0 lead.
- The Grove City rally started in the fifth with three runs, two on a double by first baseman Colin Marinpetro, who also had an RBI double in the 8th to help the Wolverines tie the game at 5-5.
- Moving into the 10th inning, Grove City took their first lead on an RBI single by catcher Adam Weber and added a second run on an error.
- Needing two runs to tie, the Chatham bats were quieted again in the 10th by Grove City reliever Wyatt Hopson. The freshman southpaw threw nine innings in relief, allowing just one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and he retired 23 batters in a row to close the game.
- With the bats, Weber went 4-for-5 with the go-ahead RBI, while Marinpetro had two hits and three RBIs and center fielder David Chandler was 3-for-6 with two runs scored.
- For Chatham, Brandt had two RBIs and scored a run and Caleb Jones had a double, RBI and one run scored.
