NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Top seeds Westminster College and Geneva College emerged from the opening day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Tournament with 1-0 records to set up a showdown on Friday with a spot in the championship game on the line.
Friday's schedule start with a pair of elimination games, with Hiram College taking on Saint Vincent College at 10 am (Game E) and Bethany College facing Waynesburg University at noon (Game F). Then at 2 pm, Westminster and Geneva take the field, with the winner advancing to Saturday's championship game. The final contest of the day will have the winners from Games E and F playing an elimination game at 4 pm.

Game A – No. 4 Hiram 5, No. 5 Waynesburg 0
Hiram opened the tournament with a 5-0 shutout behind a complete-game effort from senior Avery Contini (Solon, Ohio/Solon), who shut out Waynesburg in a three-hitter while striking out three and walking two.
The Terriers broke through in the third inning for a pair of runs and added two more in the fourth to take control. Sophomore second base Ari Torres (Ontario, Canada/John F. Kennedy Middle College) and senior left fielder Megan Moser (Kent, Ohio/Thoedore Roosevelt) each drove in runs, while sophomore third base Daynna Mekaru (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Mid-Pacific Institute) highlighted the offense with a triple. Junior shortstop Lola Thomas (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey) also scored twice and knocked in one.
Waynesburg was led by senior catcher Braylee Corbin (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg), who recorded a double, while sophomore DP Tori Foust (Blairsville, Pa./River Valley) and sophomore third base Graeson Grubbs (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) each added hits.
Game B – No. 3 Bethany 4, No. 6 Saint Vincent 2
Bethany used one swing to take control, as sophomore Trinity Edge (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) launched a grand slam in the second inning to lift the Bison to a 4-2 win over Saint Vincent.
Saint Vincent (20-17) took a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore second base Eva Farone (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) hit a leadoff triple and scored on a ground out. The Bison's big blast from Edge came with two outs in the second inning to give BC a 4-1 lead. The Bearcats got one back in the third on an RBI single by sophomore third base Josey Michalski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin), but SVC would not score again.
Edge also earned the win in the circle, striking out seven while allowing just four hits. Sophomore catcher Olivia Kidd (Akron, Ohio/Mogadore) added a double among her two hits, while junior third base Emma Jackson (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and senior right fielder Trista Morris (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) contributed two singles each for the Bison.
Game C – No. 1 Westminster 5, No. 4 Hiram 1
Top-seeded Westminster advanced with a 5-1 win over Hiram behind a complete-game performance from sophomore Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa, Ligoner Valley).
The Titans collected 12 hits and scored in four different innings. Freshman third base Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI single in the fourth, sophomore second base Morgan O’Brien (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) had two hits, including an RBI double in the sixth, and junior catcher Faith Jones (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) had two singles and one RBI.
Piper continued her strong pitching of late, allowing just one run on four hits with zero walks and five Ks to improve her record to 16-3 this year.
Hiram’s lone run came in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Torres. Junior DP Hannah Marlow (Huntsville, Ohio/Calvary Christian) finished the game with two hits as well.
Game D – No. 2 Geneva 3, No. 3 Bethany 2
Geneva closed out the day with a tightly contested 3-2 win over Bethany, as senior Sophia Tvaroch (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) tossed a complete game to earn the victory. She scattered nine hits while allowing two runs with zero walks and a pair of punchouts.
The Golden Tornadoes struck early with two runs in the first on a two-run single by senior Justine Robbins (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) added the decisive run in the fifth on an RBI single from junior Aliya Ottaviani (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside). Senior shortstop Lexi Zanic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) led Geneva with three hits and scored twice.
Bethany threatened late, cutting the deficit to one in the sixth behind an RBI double from Jackson, but Geneva held on to secure the win. Jackson also had an RBI single in the first.
