TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - A pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) players in Case Western Reserve University junior safety Jake Kavcic (Kirtland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Grove City College sophomore cornerback Cameron Epps (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Allegheny) were selected for the D3football.com Team of the Week following their efforts in wins last Saturday.
The PAC Special Teams Player of the Week, Kavcic also earned a spot on the Team of the Week as a special teams player. He immediately set the tone for the Spartans in a 52-10 victory over Saint Francis University, blocking a punt on the opening drive to set up the first CWRU touchdown of the game two plays later. Kavcic added a safety later in the game, tackling the Saint Francis punter in the end zone with 9:34 left in the third to increase CWRU's lead to 29-3. Kavcic was also active in the return game, bringing back two kicks for an average of 39.0 yards per return (with a season-long 54-yard return) and three punts for an average of 13.3 yards (with a long of 15).
Defensively, the strong safety had five tackles (one solo), including one for a loss, and intercepted his first pass of the campaign in the victory.
It is the second time this season Kavcic has received D3football.com Team of the Week honors, after receiving the honor at safety for the first week of the season.
This week's PAC Defensive Player of the Week, Epps intercepted two passes in the second half Saturday night at Westminster, helping Grove City rally for a 34-19 win on the road. His 64-yard interception return to the end zone with 3:41 left in the third quarter gave Grove City the lead for good, 20-16. Epps then intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter to help seal the Wolverines' third straight victory. He also had a season-high six tackles.
It was the fourth game in a row Epps has intercepted a pass and he now leads the PAC with five picks for the year, as well as 13 passes defended.
