WAYNESBURG, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The Waynesburg University women's soccer team played host to the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Women's Soccer Championship Tournament against Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. It took some extra time and effort, but the Yellow Jackets simultaneously made history and advanced to the ECAC title game with a 3-2 overtime win over the Bobcats.

With the victory, the Jackets (16-3-2) set a new single-season program wins record.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring early in the seventh minute thanks to a goal by junior forward Julz Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa./Freedom). Freshman midfielder Miracle Hershey (Lebanon County, Pa./New Covenant Christian) was credited with her team-leading 10th assist, which came from a pass on the right side of the pitch to Mohrbacher.

The lead was short lived, however, as the Bobcats (9-9-3) scored just 89 seconds later to knot things up at 1-1. The two squads went into halftime still deadlocked at 1-1.

In the second half, the Bobcats took the lead in the 75th minute, but the Yellow Jackets were ready with a quick response of their own, which came in the 77th minute. Junior midfielder Hailey Gilchrest (Hanover, Va./Hanover) brought the home crowd to its feet when junior Waverly Lorne (New Providence, N.J./Governor Livingston) set up her classmate for the equalizer.

Eventually, the contest moved into overtime. That's when sophomore Amanda Pepe (Mantua, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) muscled her way through the Bobcat defense and beat the opposing keeper to the lower left portion of the goal mouth for the golden goal.

Sophomore defender Abby Ngugi (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) set up the score with the first assist, before a quick flick from Mohrbacher put Pepe in position to end the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Lex Greenlief (Chester, W.Va./Oak Glen) provided five saves in the win, including a huge stop late in the contest.

The Jackets outshot the Bobcats 23-10 (8-7 SOG) on the night and held a slight 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Waynesburg is scheduled to compete in the ECAC championship game on Saturday, Nov. 22, against Keene State (N.H.), which defeated New Jersey City in the other semifinal. Start time and game site have yet to be determined.
