Illinois Tech edges Grove City in NCAA Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (pacathletics.org) - The Grove City College women's soccer team concluded the 2025 season Friday afternoon by dropping a 1-0 decision to Illinois Tech (20-1-1) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by Calvin University at Zuidema Field.

The Scarlet Hawks broke the scoreless tie at 61:38 when Kelly Hitchcock scored her 13th goal of the season. 

Illinois Tech outshot Grove City (13-5-2) by a 16-3 margin, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Illinois Tech had nine corner kicks and Grove City tallied four corner kicks.

Junior goalie Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) stopped six shots. The Wolverine defense also cleared away two potential Illinois Tech goals. 

Friday's match marked Grove City's ninth all-time appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Grove City had not previously faced Illinois Tech until Friday's meeting. The Scarlet Hawks, who advanced to the third round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, will face either Penn State Behrend or Calvin in the second round of the tournament Saturday.
