PAC Hosts Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet 5/19/2023 3:55:00 PM WEXFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) hosted its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Banquet Thursday, May 18th. The evening of celebration was held at The Chadwick in Wexford. The event started with a reception for all attendees at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the introduction of the honorees. Over 120 were on hand to join in the celebration of the 24 recognized scholar-athletes. Each of the PAC's 11 full-time member institutions – Allegheny College, Bethany College, Chatham University, Franciscan University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College, along with football affiliates Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University – were represented by some of their most distinguished student-athletes at the event. With overwhelming support from conference's presidents and athletic administrators, the PAC launched its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Banquet in 2014 as another way to recognize the league's student-athletes for their athletic achievements, excellence in the classroom and outstanding community service efforts. This was the 10th class of scholar-athletes recognized by the conference 2023 Awardees Bobby Kusinsky Allegheny College Harrison City, Pennsylvania Penn-Trafford High School Major: Biochemistry Sport: Baseball Bobby Kusinsky is a four-year member of the Allegheny baseball team as a pitcher. In his career, he has appeared in 31 games, making 20 starts. He owns a 4.61 career ERA with 12 career wins while striking out 122 batters. His best season to datecame in 2022, where he went 7-1 with a 3.45 ERA, which earned him a spot on the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Honorable Mention Team. On March 27 this year, he was named PAC Pitcher of the Week. Off the field, Bobby is a Biochemistry major with a minor in Psychology. He has been an Allegheny Alden Scholar and Distinguished Alden Scholar each year. Bobby is also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honor society, and the NCAC Honor Roll. After graduating in May, Bobby plans to take an enrichment year where he will either be working to gain clinical experience in a hospital or going to graduate school before applying to medical school. Eva Kerr Allegheny College Fredericksburg, Virginaia James Monroe High School Majors: Biology & Enviornmental Science Sustainability Sports: Cross Country & Track & Field Eva Kerr is a four-year member of the Allegheny Cross Country and Track and Field teams. In total, Kerr has been a part of five conference championships for the Gators. In cross country, Eva helped the Gators win the 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship and the 2022 PAC Championship. She earned Second Team All-NCAC and All-PAC Honorable Mention accolades. Eva also competed at the 2021 NCAA Division III Championships. In track, she helped the Gators win the 2021 NCAC Outdoor Championships and the 2023 PAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Academically, Eva is a biology and environmental science and sustainability double major with a minor in mathematics. She is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the student-athlete honor society and Life of a Runner and has earned Distinguished Alden Scholar and Doane Scholar honors as well as the Clendenin Sustainability Prize, Outstanding Junior Major Prize for Environmental Studies and Sustainability and a Trustee Scholarship. After graduation, Eva plans on attending the University of Georgia for a Master’s in Wildlife Science. Riley Felton Bethany College Salineville, Ohio Southern Local High School Major: Psychology Sport: Volleyball Riley was a four-year member of Bethany’s women’s volleyball program and a three-time All-PAC honoree. Felton led the sixthseeded Bethany Bison to the 2022 PAC Women’s Volleyball title, clinching the championship in an exciting four-game match against No. 1 seed Thiel. She appeared in 94 matches with 605 kills, 247 total blocks (86 solo), and 73 service aces. Her 115 (50 solo) blocks this season ranked 16th in NCAA DIII. Felton sits second all-time on Bethany’s total blocks list for a single-season. Riley has been lauded as a member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll four times. On campus, she is a member of the Black Student Union, as well as the Psychology Club. She continues her efforts on the volleyball court as a coach for the Ohio Valley Volleyball Company, as well as volunteering in her hometown. She graduated May 6 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and was selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in June. Clay Yingling Bethany College Libertytown, Maryland Linganore High School Major: Physics Sport: Lacrosse Clay was a five-year member of Bethany’s men’s lacrosse program and a four-time All-PAC honoree. He appeared in 60 games making 45 starts and finishes his career as the all-time leading scorer in Bison history. He finished with 108 goals. His 155 career points and 47 assists rank second all-time. Over the last two seasons of his career, he scored 76 goals with 107 points. He finished with a shot on goal percentage of 62.3 and 408 total shots (254 on goal). Clay has been lauded as a member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll four times. On campus, he is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Phi Kappa Tau. At Bethany’s annual Honors Day, he received the J.S.V. Allen Memorial, which recognizes an outstanding physics student. He graduated May 6 with his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in physics. Ben Coyne Carnegie Mellon University McDonald, Pennsylvania South Fayette High School Major: Business Sport: Football Ben, a 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic AllAmerican, also repeated as a first team All-PAC and was named second team D3football.com All-Region 2. He ended the 2022 regular season second in the PAC with 9.5 sacks for a loss of 54 yards. He also tabbed a total of 13.5 tackles for loss of 61 yards, which ranked fifth-best in the league. Coyne recorded 50 total tackles, 25 solo, and recorded the first two interceptions of his career, forced a fumble and recovered another during his final season on the gridiron. He played a huge part in the Tartans back-to-back PAC Championship runs, as he was part of a defense that led the league in scoring defense, rushing defense, turnovers gained, passes intercepted, turnover margin and tackles for loss. Coyne is a member of Scottie Ventures Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and the Sports Analytics Club. He has interned at Draper Triangle Ventures, Highmark Health and Covestro in data analytics. Coyne has accepted a job with Deloitte as a Strategy Consulting Analyst. Antonio Orsini Case Western Reserve University Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Upper St. Clair High School Major: Business Sport: Football Antonio has been a standout both on and off the field during his time as a member of the Case Western Reserve University football program. Earlier in the year, he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for his athletic and academic achievements. Antonio, a team captain and senior running back, was named to the All-PAC Second Team in 2022 (his second-straight season earning All-PAC honors) after finishing the year with 794 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while adding 135 receiving yards with an additional score. He ranked eighth in the conference in all-purpose yards (1,014) and ninth in scoring. Antonio finished his career with 1,474 rushing yards and ranked fourth in program history with 5.0 yards per carry over his career and eighth with 20 rushing touchdowns. Antonio is a Business major with a 3.625 cumulative GPA and has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll twice over his career. Marcos Cintron Chatham University Grove City, Pennsylvania Grove City High School Major: Business Management Sport: Basketball In four years with the Cougars, Marcos has become one of the most accomplished players in program history. In 2022-23, Marcos scored the most points in a single-season in Chatham history (471), became the fourth Cougar to reach 1,000 career points and became Chatham Men’s Basketball’s all-time leading scorer at 1,277 points. He was selected to the All-PAC First Team this season, which marked his third-career All-PAC selection. Marcos led the Cougars to their second PAC title and second trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Marcos graduated from Chatham with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Shaelah Pepperman Chatham University Bellefonte, Pennsylvania Bellefonte High School Majors: Psychology & Social Work Sport: Volleyball Shaelah was a four-year starter and three-year captain of the Cougar Volleyball program. As a setter, Shaelah played in 302 sets, compiling a school record-setting 2,385 career assists, including a single-season high 990. Her 61-assist performance in the PAC quarterfinals set an NCAA Division III and PAC record for most assists in a single game. She added 112 kills and 69 service aces throughout the course of her career, and boasted 10 assists per set in her senior season. She was named to the All-PAC First and Second teams in her junior and senior seasons, respectively. Academically, Shaelah made Dean’s List every semester and PAC Honor Roll after each volleyball season while double-majoring in Psychology and Social Work, as well as pursuing certificates in Women’s Leadership and Forensic Social Work. She has won the Maggie Hobbs Social Work Award, voted upon by students and faculty, two years in a row. In the Chatham Community, Shaelah worked at Chatham’s Women’s Institute, served as president of the Social Work Club, and was appointed co-investigator of the Harm Assessment for Reduction and Prevention (HARP) study. Brendan Burke Franciscan University Pinckney, Michigan Detroit Central Catholic High School Major: Theology & Catechetics Sport: Baseball Burke was a four-year member of the Franciscan Baseball team. This season he led the Barons with a .400 batting average and nine doubles and earned Second Team All-PAC honors. Last season, he was named First Team All-Conference, as well as ABCA/Rawlings Mideast All-Region Third Team. Over his career with the Barons, he has 130 hits, 32 doubles, eight home runs, and 90 RBIs, all of which are new program records. He is a career .386 hitter with an OPS of 1.035. While succeeding on the diamond, he has taken care of business in the classroom. This May, he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Theology & Catechetics. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend this event as he is preparing to leave for his summer missionary training in Nebraska. He has accepted a full-time missionary position for the organization FOCUS (the Fellowship of Catholic University Students). Haley Davinsizer Franciscan University Cranberry Twp., Pennsylvania Seneca Valley High School Major: Accounting & Finance Sport: Tennis Davinsizer was a four-year member of the Franciscan Women’s Tennis Team. She was a crucial part of three conference championship winning teams, and she was able to compete in the NCAA National Championship Tournament twice. In singles play, she has held a 32-20 for the 9th most singles wins in program history. She has 37 doubles wins over the years which is fifth most in program history. She earned All-Conference honors five times, including First Team recognition once. While she excelled on the court, she also excelled in the classroom. The Accounting and Finance major was named Academic All-Conference and ITA Scholar Athlete four times. Upon graduation she plans to finish up her MBA and study for the Certified Public Accountant Exam next year, and then become an accountant in the auditing sector after the exam. Gabe Kemp Geneva College Normalville, Pennsylvania Connellsville High School Major: Physician Assistant Sport: Men’s Soccer Gabriel Kemp, from Normalville, Pennsylvania, graduated this month with a degree in biology. He has been one of the top goalkeepers in the PAC over the past four seasons. He stepped into the starting lineup midway through his freshman season, eventually earning All-PAC honors for his half season of play that year, and he has started virtually every game since. Kemp has been named an All-PAC selection all four seasons, including First Team Honors after his sophomore season. He finished his career with 20 career shutouts, which is fourth-most in school history. He has also excelled in the classroom, graduating with a 3.87 GPA. Kemp has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll all four seasons of competition, while also receiving academic honors from the NCCAA and the CSC. On campus, he has been a tutor for biology and humanities classes from the past three years. He organized a bone marrow donor registration drive as president of the Pre-Healthcare Career Club. He also volunteered as an activities leader at his church during the summer in its Vacation Bible School. Kemp is planning to attend Slippery Rock in the fall in their Physician’s Assistant program, working to obtain a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Haley Smith Geneva College Joshua Tree, California Yucca Valley High School Major: Psychology Sport: Softball Haley Smith, from Joshua Tree, California, graduated this month with a degree in Psychology. She has been one of the best pitchers in the PAC during her career and one of the top pitchers to ever wear a Geneva College uniform. After her freshman season was cut short due to COVID, she was named the PAC Softball Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore when she led Geneva to the PAC Championship with a 19-3 overall record and a 1.84 ERA. Smith was named the PAC Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player during that tournament, as well as a NFCA Third Team All-Central Region selection. She’s been an All-PAC performer during the past three seasons. In the classroom, Smith has a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and she won the psychology department’s Virginia Napoli Award, given to a senior female student-athlete who most exemplifies the high standards of character, scholarship and leadership to which Virginia was committed. In the community, she served as a tutor for two years at Tiger Pause, a ministry to young people in the Beaver Falls community. Smith also spent time on campus as an intramural coordinator, volunteered in the Center for Student Engagement on the creative media team, and helped run softball clinics at Geneva for youths. Marc Dieter Grove City College Huron, Ohio Huron High School Major: Mechanical Engineering Sport: Swimming & Diving Three-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference honoree Marc Dieter helped the Grove City College men’s swimming and diving team capture four straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference titles during his career. A standout in the backstroke and individual medley events, Dieter capped his career by earning Second Team All-Conference recognition following the 2023 conference championships. He earned third in the 200 backstroke at this year’s meet while placing fourth in the 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley. Dieter earned conference runner-up in both individual medley events at the 2022 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships, earning First Team All-PAC accolades. As a sophomore, Dieter earned the first of his three AllPAC citations when he earned Second Team honors after the 2021 season. He also helped Grove City to a 15-4 dual meet record over his last three seasons. A mechanical engineering major, Dieter owns the top cumulative gradepoint average among Grove City’s senior student-athletes. He has been named to the conference’s Academic Honor Roll and the Dean’s List. The College Sports Information Directors of America (now College Sports Communicators) selected Dieter as an Academic All-District honoree in 2022. Melia (Lamie) Pavelek Grove City College Grove City, Pennsylvania Grove City High School Major: Biology Sport: Soccer Melia (Lamie) Pavelek earned four letters as a midfielder for the Grove City College women’s soccer team, helping the team to 43 total wins and a 30-5-1 record in conference play. She started all 19 matches as a senior in 2022 and ranked second on the team with four assists. Overall, Pavelek started 37 straight matches to conclude her career. She played in all 12 matches during the spring 2021 season and concluded her career with 53 games played. As a freshman, Pavelek helped Grove City capture the conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Pavelek graduated in December with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She earned the highest cumulative grade-point average among Grove City’s senior female student-athletes for the 2022-23 academic year. She also earned Dean’s List recognition and has been named to the conference’s Academic Honor Roll. Lauren Connors Saint Vincent College Greensburg, Pennsylvania Greater Latrobe High School Major: Early Childhood Education Sport: Swimming & Diving Lauren Connors graduated as one of the most decorated swimmers in Saint Vincent College history. The school record holder in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, Connors is a four-time First Team AllPAC honoree. As a freshman in 2020, she won the PAC title in the 200 back, while helping the SVC 400 freestyle relay to the conference championship. After helping the Bearcats to the PAC championship in the 400 medley relay as a sophomore in 2021, Connors turned in a historic performance at the 2022 PAC Swimming and Diving Championships, being named Saint Vincent’s first PAC Swimmer of the Year after winning individual titles in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 individual medley, while also leading the Bearcats’ victorious 200 freestyle relay squad. This season, in her final PAC Championship meet, Connors repeated as the 100 backstroke champ. Connors graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. Named to the Saint Vincent College Dean’s List in every semester, Connors has been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies, while she served as a mentor in the Bearcat Buddies Club, where she worked with the Bearcat B.E.S.T. program, a transition program offered at Saint Vincent College for individuals aged 18-21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A 2023 CSC Academic All-District honoree and four-time PAC Academic Honor Roll selection, Connors was awarded the Saint Vincent College William Rafferty Award, which recognizes outstanding senior student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom. Jordan Sabol Saint Vincent College Irwin, Pennsylvania Penn-Trafford High School Major: Business Data Analytics Sport: Baseball Jordan Sabol put together a stellar four-year career for the Bearcat baseball team, excelling as one of the top outfielders in the PAC for the duration of his career. After batting .464 over the COVID-abbreviated 2020 season, Sabol earned First Team All-PAC honors as a sophomore in 2021, batting .402 (51-127) with three triples, 41 runs scored and 16 stolen bases while leading the Bearcats to the PAC Tournament championship game. Last season, Sabol was a Second Team All-PAC selection after batting .328 (41-125) with 12 doubles, 17 RBIs and 36 runs scored, while he recently wrapped up a senior season in which he batted .352 (45-128) with two home runs, 24 RBIs, 43 runs scored and 14 stolen bases. He was also perfect in 102 chances in the field, while he was named to the PAC’s All-Tournament Team after tallying eight hits and scoring five runs in leading Saint Vincent to the title game for the second time in three seasons. A four-year PAC Academic Honor Roll selection, Sabol graduated from Saint Vincent College with honors with a bachelor’s degree in business data analytics and was named to the College’s Dean’s List in every semester. This spring, he was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma scholar-athlete honor society and was awarded Saint Vincent College’s William Rafferty Award, which recognizes outstanding senior student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom. He has accepted a full-time position as a data analyst at Pittsburgh investment management firm Federated Hermes. Matt Beuermann Thiel College Tasmania, Australia Don College Majors: Communication Studies & English Sports: Track & Field and Cross Country Matt Beuermann graduated with summa cum laude and departmental honors on May 7 with bachelor’s degrees in communication studies and English. He minored in gender studies, was one of his class valedictorians, and received the Dean’s Key at commencement as an eight-semester Dean’s List student. Beuermann played basketball in 2021-22. He competed in track in 2021-22 and 2022-23, and was also a member of the cross country team in 2022. He finished 136th at the 2022 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships in 28:54, the fastest time for a Tomcat at regionals since 2016. He also helped the crosss country squad earn a Team Academic Award from USTFCCCA. Beuermann ran a leg on the distance medley relay team, which finished second at the PAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in February in a new school record time of 10:46.37. He was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team, which finished eighth in 3:39.43. On campus, Beuermann was involved with The Bell, The Phoenix and The Lectern. He served as a student employee for Thiel’s Office of Communications and Marketing and was a writing lab consultant for the Learning Commons. He is a member of the following honors societies: Chi Alpha Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Lambda Sigma and Sigma Tau Delta. Beuermann will continue his athletic career in 2023-24 while pursuing an M.B.A. at Thiel College. Raquel McDonald Thiel College Syracuse, New York Bishop Grimes High School Majors: Criminal Justice Studies, Psychology, Sociology Sport: Volleyball Raquel McDonald graduated with summa cum laude and departmental honors on May 7 with bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice studies, psychology and sociology. She minored in Spanish, was one of her class valedictorians, and received the Dean’s Key at commencement as an eight-semester Dean’s List student. A member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, McDonald was named a Thiel College Student of the Month in March of 2022. She is a member of the following honors societies: Lambda Sigma Rho, Alpha Kappa Delta, Psi Chi, Chi Alpha Sigma, Alpha Chi and the National Society of Leadership and Success. A four-time member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll, McDonald was named to the 2022 Academic All-America Volleyball Second Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), in December. She was a CSC All-District First Team selection in 2022 and a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team selection in 2021. A three-time All-PAC honoree, McDonald earned First Team accolades in 2022, when she helped Thiel secure the top seed in the PAC Championship Tournament for the first time in school history. She went on to be named to the PAC All-Tournament Team after the Tomcats played in the title match for the fourth time in program history. A member of Thiel’s concert band, McDonald served as a peer note-taker and a peer tutor for the Learning Commons. She will soon begin working as a behavioral health technician at George Junior Republic in Grove City. She also plans to attend graduate school for forensic and legal psychology. Tyler Horvat Washington & Jefferson College Irwin, Pennsylvania Penn-Trafford High School Major: Finance Sport: Baseball Tyler was a four-year standout pitcher and outfielder for the W&J baseball program. A rare two-way standout on the diamond, he has earned All-PAC First Team honors in each of his first three seasons. The two-time D3baseball.com All-America and 2021 ABCA AllAmerica selection has set multiple school records during his time as a President. His 24 stolen bases in 2023 have established a new single-season school record. He has compiled a .397 batting average with 166 hits, 117 runs scored, 32 doubles, 16 triples, five home runs, 91 career RBI at the plate. His 56 stolen bases during his career rank second in program history. The 2021 PAC Newcomer of the Year has also excelled on the mound. His 28 career victories rank tied for the most in program history. He has compiled a 2.41 ERA and has registered 207 strikeouts over 231.2 career innings. He was honored as PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month back in March. Horvat is a two-time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America. He has compiled a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Finance. Tyler plans to pursue his master’s in business administration (MBA) at Bryant University. He plans to continue his baseball career playing for the Division I Bulldogs in the Northeast Conference. Sarah Labovitz Washington & Jefferson College Great Falls, Virginia The Bullis School Major: Sociology Sport: Lacrosse Sarah put together a stellar four-year run with the Washington & Jefferson women’s lacrosse program. The Presidents compiled a perfect 31-0 record against PAC competition and have claimed three-straight conference titles during her career. Labovitz was a three-time All-PAC First Team selection who ranks among the best in program history in several categories. Labovitz ranks second all-time with 291 draw controls, second with 216 ground balls, third with 106 caused turnovers, fourth with 69 assists and sixth with 136 goals and seventh with 205 points. Her total of 108 draw controls this year rank as second most in a single season. Labovitz received IWLCA All-West Region Second Team honors and was named Most Outstanding Player of the PAC Tournament as a sophomore. She has earned a pair of major awards from the PAC as well, as she was named Midfielder of the Year in 2023 and Offensive Player of the Year in 2021. She has been selected as an All-Tournament team pick three times. She has been recognized on Academic Honor Rolls by the PAC and the IWLCA. Outside of athletics, Sarah is a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She has compiled a 3.59 cumulative gradepoint average while majoring in Sociology and minoring in Economics and Conflict Resolution. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in social work and work in non-profit. Katherine Henderson Waynesburg University Hundred, West Virginia Hundred High School Major: Psychology Sport: Track & Field Katherine Henderson was a four-year standout on the Waynesburg University track & field team. In 2023, she qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in the Pentathlon. Katherine placed 10th in the grueling event, which left her just two spots short of earning All-American status. Prior to heading to nationals, she was named PAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for a second-straight season. Katherine also left her mark on the program’s history with new school records in the indoor high jump, indoor long jump, indoor 60-meter hurdles, indoor pentathlon and outdoor long jump. Over her decorated career, she was honored as a two-time PAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and a PAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. Katherine also spent one season (2020-21) with the Waynesburg women’s basketball team. Heading into her senior season, Katherine was twice listed on the PAC Academic Honor Roll and graduated Magna Cum Laude on May 7 with a degree in Psychology. Along with excelling academically and athletically, Katherine was active in her community in a variety of ways. She was president of Waynesburg’s Peer Leaders group, and a member of the Psychology Club. Away from campus, she volunteered at WeCare Food Bank, the Waynesburg Senior Center and Waynesburg Central High School. Tyler Metzger Waynesburg University Connellsville, Pennsylvania Connellsville High School Major: Political Science Sport: Football Tyler Metzger was a four-year member of the Waynesburg University football team and enjoyed his most productive season in 2022. He tallied 39 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. Tyler also served as a team captain this past fall. He capped his collegiate playing career by appearing in the All American Bowl at US Bank Stadium, which is the home of the Minnesota Vikings. Off the field, he is a three-time member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll, was named to the 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Football Teams and recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Environmental Science. Tyler was also recognized for a senior research project he presented at the Pittsburgh Geological Society. The native of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, has also been extremely active in both his hometown and at Waynesburg. He spearheaded a project to build a public garden for the Waynesburg community, volunteered at Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church’s vacation bible school, led an educational event for local high school students participating in Envirothon competitions and was a volunteer football coach in the summer at Connellsville High School. On campus, he was a tutor, volunteered for numerous WU events, volunteered on the campus trail and pollinator gardens, served as secretary for the Ecostewards Club for two years, was a member of FCA for two years and was a freshman mentor on the Yellow Jacket football team. Jad Jadallah Westminster College Canfield, Ohio Canfield High School Majors: Human Resources Management & Accounting Sport: Soccer A four-year member of Westminster’s men’s soccer program, Jad was named to the Dean’s List seven times and the PAC Academic Honor Roll four times. He was selected as a Dr. Darwin W. Huey Senior Scholar-Athlete at the 18th annual WESPY (Westminster Exceptional Sports Performances of the Year) Awards, finishing as the College’s top graduating male student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA). A three-year starter at goalkeeper, Jad appeared in 52 career matches with 47 starts. He has earned Honorable Mention All-PAC honors three times and finished fifth in the league in goals-against average (1.487/g) last fall, going 9-6-3. Jad is active on campus, serving as a Titan Tour Guide and Vice President of the campus’s SAAC while working with the SPARK (Strengthening Positivity and Reinforcing Kindness) Club. He is also involved with the Westminster Entrepreneurship Center (WEC) and Lamda Sigma, a national honor society for second-year undergraduate students. He has completed internships with Matthews International Corporation in Pittsburgh and Ventra Salem in Salem, Ohio. Jad finished with a 3.976 cumulative undergraduate GPA and graduated May 13 with a bachelor’s degree in human resources management and accounting. He will return to Westminster this fall to play soccer while taking Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses with a concentration in data analysis, as well as starting to work as a tax associate at Baker Tilly in New Castle. Janae Johnson Westminster College Oberlin, Ohio Oberlin High School Major: Spanish Sport: Soccer Janae, a two-year member of Westminster’s women’s soccer program, has been named to the College’s Dean’s List and PAC Academic Honor Roll. She was selected as a Dr. Darwin W. Janae has served as a peer tutor and research ambassador with the College’s Academic Success Center and as a teaching assistant in the Department of Modern Languages. Last spring Janae studied at the Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica and in March participated in a mission trip to Iglesia Evangélica Dominicana in Sabaneta de Yásica, Dominican Republic. Janae maintained a 4.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA and graduated May 13 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She served as vice president of Sigma Delta Pi, the national collegiate Hispanic honor society, and worked with the campus’s SPARK (Strengthening Positivity and Reinforcing Kindness) Club. She has extensive field experience at Franklin Regional High School, Sharpsville Middle/High School, Barnesville High School (Ohio) and John Glenn High School (Ohio), where she assisted with lesson planning and instruction in middle and high school Spanish and English classes. Janae is planning to pursue a Master of Education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
