Grove City claims third-straight PAC title

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Top-seeded Grove City College won the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament title with Saturday night's 17-4 victory over No. 2 Saint Vincent College at Robert E. Thorn Field in Grove City. 

The conference championship is the third straight for Grove City (15-4). Saint Vincent (13-2) was appearing in the league's title game for the first time in program history. 


As the winner of this year's PAC Championship Tournament, Grove City will receive the conference's automatic-qualifying bid to the Division III Championship. Twenty-seven conferences have been granted automatic qualification (Pool A) for this year's championship. The 38-team field for this year’s Division III Championship is scheduled to be announced Sunday, May 8. First round games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 11.

Leading 5-2 after one period, senior Mike LaForte (Waterford, Conn. | Waterford) scored twice in the second to help Grove City outscore Saint Vincent 4-0 in the period and take a 9-2 lead into the break... Freshman Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y. | Holeoye Falls-Lima) tallied three second half goals for Grove City... LaForte finished with three goals and a pair of assists... Senior Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md. | Marriotts Ridge) chipped in with one goal, one assist, six ground balls and a caused turnover... Freshman Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio | Springboro) finished with one goal, two assists and two ground balls... Sophomore Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va. | Flint Hill) stopped 10 shots in registering his ninth-straight win... Coholich had two goals and two ground balls for Saint Vincent... Junior Brody McMahon (Lewes, Del. | Cape Henlopen) finished with six ground balls and two caused turnovers... Junior Caleb Hawkins (Palmyra, Pa. | Palmyra) had two assists and two ground balls... Senior Noah Sperling (Gibsonia, Pa. | North Catholic) made 12 saves... Grove City outshot Saint Vincent 50-31 and had a 29-15 advantage in shots on goal...
