GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Westminster College has earned the top seed and hosting rights for this year's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Championship Tournament.

Westminster concluded its regular season 29-4 and went 16-2 in league play. It will host the double-elimination tournament Thursday and Friday, May 5-6 in New Wilmington.

Westminster last hosted the PAC Championship Tournament in 2016. Westminster won its only PAC title in 2005.

Westminster was ranked No. 8 in Region VII in the latest NCAA Division III regional rankings.

The six-team tournament is scheduled to get underway Tuesday, May 3 with a play-in series hosted by No. 4 Saint Vincent College (22-8, 11-7 PAC). Fifth-seeded Grove City College (16-16, 10-8 PAC) and No. 6 Geneva College (19-15, 9-9 PAC) will travel to Latrobe for a 3 p.m. elimination game, with the winner meeting No. 4 Saint Vincent at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to Thursday's double-elimination portion of the championship tournament.

Third-seeded Bethany College (19-14, 12-6 PAC) and No. 2 Waynesburg University (24-9, 13-5 PAC) will get things going Thursday at 10 a.m. Top-seeded Westminster and the winner of Tuesday's play-in series will match up in the second opening-round game at 12 p.m.

The losers of Thursday's opening-round matchups will meet in elimination Game E at 2 p.m., followed by the winners of the two opening-round games (Game F) facing off at 4 p.m.

On Friday, the winner of Game E will meet the loser of Game F in an 11 a.m. elimination game for the right to play for the conference title against the Game F winner at 1 p.m. If both teams have one loss at that point, the "if necessary" game is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The winner of this year’s championship tournament title will secure the league's automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Softball Championship. Forty-three conferences have been granted automatic qualification (Pool A) for this year's championship. Teams and regional site selections will be announced on Monday, May 9. Regional round play is scheduled for Friday-Sunday, May 13-15. The Super Regionals will be played Friday-Saturday, May 20-21.
