Carnegie Mellon claims second-straight PAC title 11/6/2022 7:30:00 PM GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Despite being on its bye week Saturday, Carnegie Mellon University earned its second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) football title with a 7-0 league record. This year's PAC title is the ninth for Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans will also receive the PAC's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The PAC is one of 27 conferences granted automatic qualification (Pool A) to the Division III Championship. It will be Carnegie Mellon's eighth all-time appearance in the Division III Championship. "I couldn't be prouder of our team. To clinch the PAC Championship in Week 10, with one game to go is a testament to how our team battled through adversity this season and found ways to win," said first-year head coach Ryan Larsen. "We still have a lot of unfinished business to attend to, and it starts with a great opportunity right in front of us with the Academic Bowl next Saturday. 1-0 this week is all that matters." Carnegie Mellon (9-0), No. 17 in last week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' Poll and No. 19 in the latest D3football.com Top 25, is riding a 16-game winning streak, the longest active streak across all NCAA divisions. Carnegie Mellon's 9-0 start is the best start for the program since 2006, when it posted a 10-0 regular season record. It is the fifth time in program history that the program has started the season with nine-straight wins. Selections for the 32-team Division III Championship will be announced on Sunday, November 13 at 5:30 p.m. PAC Commissioner Joe Onderko will be on hand to present the league's championship trophy to Carnegie Mellon prior next Sunday's selection show, which can be seen on ncaa.com.
