Grove City’s Gustafson, W&J’s Laughlin earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors 8/10/2021 1:03:18 PM AUSTIN, Texas (pacathletics.org)--Grove City College senior Cody Gustafson (Newburg, Pa. | Shippensburg) and recent Washington & Jefferson College graduate Parker Laughlin (Zelienople, Pa. | Seneca Valley) earned 2020-21 Academic All-America® men’s track and field/cross country recognition Tuesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Gustafson and Laughlin were named Third Team members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams for track and field/cross country. Both Gustafson and Laughlin were recognized as First Team District IV representatives for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program on July 15. District IV includes all NCAA Division III programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This spring, Gustafson scored in three events at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He earned conference runner-up in the triple jump, placed third in the long jump and helped the 400-meter relay take fourth. He is a three-time Academic All-District® honoree in track and field. Gustafson has earned a 3.93 grade-point average while majoring in mathematics. He is a Dean's List honoree and a PAC Academic Honor Roll selection. CoSIDA recently honored Gustafson as an Academic All-American® in football for the second-straight year. A standout wide receiver, Gustafson owns numerous game, season and career receiving records at Grove City. He is also a three-time Academic All-District® selection in football. Gustafson is the first Grove City student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® in multiple sports. Laughlin served as a team captain for both the W&J cross country and track & field teams during both his junior and senior seasons. A four-year member of the track & field program, he earned All-PAC honors three times. He capped his career by claiming the individual title in the 800-meter run at the PAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Laughlin finished 12th at the 2020-21 PAC Cross Country Championships this spring, earning Second Team All-PAC honors. Laughlin, who earned his undergraduate degree in May, finished with a cumulative 3.92 grade-point average. He was a six-time member of the PAC Academic Honor Roll. He plans to pursue a master's degree in physician assistant studies at Chatham University. CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
