GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Top-seeded Geneva College claimed its second Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Softball Championship Tournament title Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over No. 3 Bethany College. 

Geneva (36-5) hosted the double-elimination tournament Friday and Saturday, May 7-8 at the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball Field in Beaver Falls.

Geneva won its first PAC title in 2012.

With Saturday's championship tournament title, Geneva secured the league's automatic qualifying bid (Pool A) to the NCAA Division III Championship, with regional play scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, May 20-23. Team and regional sites selected for the Division III Softball Championship will be announced at 1 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 17.

Junior Nicole West (Glenwood, Md. | McDonogh) closed out Geneva's run to the PAC title with a terrific five-hit, complete-game shutout Saturday afternoon... West improved to 16-2 this spring with the victory... Senior Marina Manuppelli (Mars, Pa. | Mars) delivered a two-run double in the fourth inning to give Geneva a 3-1 lead... Sophomore Peri Ceasri (El Dorado Hills, Calif. | Vista Del Lago) had a two-out, RBI single in the fifth to extend Geneva's lead to 4-2... Bethany junior Jen Oberthur (Indianapolis, Ind. | Park Tudor) went 2-for-4 with a double... Oberthur hit .600 in Bethany's four games during the tournament... She had five doubles and scored three times... Senior Gabby Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio | Catholic Central) went 2-for-3... Junior Paige Allen (Avella, Pa. | Avella) went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI... Freshman Josie Wise (Canton, Ohio | Perry) allowed four runs (3 earned) on six hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

Bethany's single run in the top of the second was all it needed to advance to the tournament's championship round for the first time since 2016... Freshman Josie Wise (Canton, Ohio | Perry) allowed four hits and struck out a pair in the complete-game shutout... It was her 17th victory of the season... Bethany collected 10 hits in the win... Junior Jen Oberthur (Indianapolis, Ind. | Park Tudor) went 3-for-4 with a double... Senior Gabby Capaldi (Steubenville, Ohio | Catholic Central) went 3-for-4... Westminster first-year Riley Lewis (Clinton, Pa. | Hopwell) went 1-for-3 with a double... Sophomore Abbegail Froehlich (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) worked 3.0 innings of scoreless relief.

The Titans jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and led 11-0 going into the fourth... Junior Madison Brown (Lisbon, Ohio | East Liverpool) improved to 16-1 with the win... She allowed one hit and struck out a pair in 3.0 innings... Sophomore Abbegail Froehlich (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) threw 2.0 scoreless relief innings... Westminster piled up 12 hits in the run-rule win... Senior Haley Bedalota (Aliquippa, Pa. | Hopwell) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored... A six-run third inning keyed Geneva's run-rule win to open its tournament run... Sophomore Haley Smith (Joshua Tree, Calif. | Yucca Valley) pushed her season record to 18-3 with the win... She yielded two hits and struck out two in 5.0 innings... Junior Sarah Johnson (Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Mountain Vista) scored in the second on an inside-the-park home run in the second... Johnson went 1-for-3 with an RBI, three runs scored and had a stolen base... Junior Jennifer Oberthur (Indianapolis, Ind. | Park Tudor) and junior Alex Kopec (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Bishop Canevin) had three hits each... Two of Oberthur's hits were doubles... Grove City sophomore Janessa Dawson (Zanesville, Ohio | Tri-Valley) gave up just five hits while striking out three in the complete game shutout... Dawson also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored... After scoring runs in the first, second and third innings Grove City plated three runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead... Sophomore Maddie Clark (West Sunbury, Pa. | Moniteau) went 2-for-3 with an RBI... Senior Hannah Dietz (Allison Park, Pa. | Hampton) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored... Junior Lexie Buck (Akron, Ohio | Lake Center Christian) had a two-out, run-scoring double in the third... W&J freshman Savannah Keough (Alexandria, Va. | T.C. Thursday's game one win was Grove City's first in the league's championship tournament since 2004... A four-run third inning keyed the Wolverines' win... Grove City sent nine batters to the plate in the pivotal frame... Down 7-1, Chatham scored four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh... Grove City senior Ashley Cornelius (Youngstown, Ohio | Boardman) allowed five runs (4 earned) on 13 hits in the complete game win... It was her 11th victory of the spring... She struck out seven... Cornelius also went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs... Freshman Lauren McNeil (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio | Cuyahoga Valley Christian) went 2-for4 with two runs scored and an RBI... Junior Cara Polese (San Diego, Calif. | Canyon Crest) had two hits, including a double...
