GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced its All-PAC Softball teams and annual award winners Monday afternoon.

The All-PAC teams, along with the PAC's yearly award winners, were determined by vote of the league's head coaches.

Geneva College junior outfielder Sarah Johnson (Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Mountain Vista) was selected as the PAC's Player of the Year, while Geneva sophomore pitcher Haley Smith (Joshua Tree, Calif. | Yucca Valley) was named the PAC's Newcomer of the Year. Geneva 19th-year head coach Van Zanic collected PAC Coach of the Year honors.

Johnson is Geneva's second PAC Player of the Year selection. Julie DiLonardo claimed the award in 2012.

Over 41 games (41 starts) this spring Johnson has hit a league-best .510. Her 74 hits established a new Geneva program record and are the most by a NCAA Division III player this season. Johnson also leads the PAC in on-base percentage (.535), runs scored (50), total bases (98) and stolen bases (33). She has totaled eight doubles, five triples, two home runs and 30 RBIs. Johnson also owns a 1.000 fielding percentage this spring. In 18 PAC games she hit .537 with 12 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Johnson was also an All-PAC First Team selection in 2019 and was named to this year's PAC All-Tournament Team.

In 21 starts (27 appearances) Smith is 19-3 with a 1.84 earned-run average. Her 19 victories are the most in the league and currently rank third in Division III. Smith's 133.1 innings pitched are tied for the second-most in the league while her ERA ranks third. She has limited opposing hitters to a .239 average this spring, the fourth-best mark among conference counterparts. Smith has thrown 16 complete games with four shutouts.

Smith was recognized as the PAC Championship Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer on May 8. She went 2-0 (2 starts) with two complete-game shutouts and posted a 0.00 ERA during the championship tournament. Smith allowed just seven hits in her 12.0 combined innings, helping Geneva claim its second PAC title (2012) and automatic qualifying bid to this year's Division III Championship.

Zanic led Geneva to a 33-5 regular season finish and a 16-2 mark in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes claimed the top seed and hosting rights for this year's four-team, double-elimination tournament for the first time in program history. Geneva went 3-0 at the Bill and Rita Conrady Softball in Beaver Falls to claim this year's PAC Championship Tournament title.

With its championship tournament title, Geneva (36-5) secured the PAC's automatic qualifying bid (Pool A) to the Division III Championship. Geneva, the No. 2 seed in the Decatur, Ill. regional, will face No. 5 seed Calvin University (28-8), champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), in opening-round action later this week.
