(pacathletics.org) – The Washington & Jefferson College women’s golf team cruised to the team title at the 2014 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Golf Championship, finishing with a team stroke total of 744 (377-367) at the two-day event. The 36-hole PAC Fall Golf Championships were held Monday and Tuesday, September 29-30 and hosted by the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa. The Presidents and seventh-year head coach Sean Dove will carry a 63 stoke advantage into the 2015 PAC Spring Championship. The 2014-15 PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes played at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships in April. The combined 72-hole team total will determine the 2014-15 PAC team champions and winners of the league's men's and women's automatic bids to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships. Westminster College used a team score of 393 during Tuesday’s final round to finish second at the event with a team total of 807 (414-393). Two-time defending PAC team champion Grove City College posted a third-place finish after scoring an 809 (398-411). Thomas More College finished fourth (821, 396-425), followed by Saint Vincent College in fifth (847,425-422), Thiel College in sixth (833, 431-452) and Waynesburg University in seventh (1144, 585-559). Grove City senior Esther Durling (Perry, Mich. / Perry) claimed her fourth-straight PAC Fall Championship individual title with a two-day stroke total of 175. She followed up Monday’s 89 with an 86 on Tuesday. Durling will look to become just the third women’s golfer in league history to earn PAC Player of the Year honors in four-straight seasons at the Spring Championship (W&J’s Leslie Walker, 2007-10; W&J’s Lynne Szarnicki, 2001-04). W&J senior Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) and freshman Marissa Sudar (Monaca, Pa. / Central Valley) tied for second after carding identical 180s. Sudar shot the lowest round of the tournament with an 85 on Tuesday. New for 2014-15 season, the All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, will be determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships. In previous years, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams will be made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention). The 36-hole PAC Spring Championship will be held Friday-Saturday, April 24-25 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa.
