W&J's Owen Miller earned PAC
Fall Championship medalist honors Tuesday
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Washington & Jefferson College men’s golf program claimed the 2014 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Golf Championship team title Tuesday, edging two-time PAC team champion Saint Vincent College by just five strokes.

The 36-hole PAC Fall Golf Championships were held Monday and Tuesday, September 29-30 and hosted by the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa.

The Presidents and seventh-year head coach Sean Dove posted a two-day team score of 623 (315-308). The Bearcats follow in second with a 628 (321-307). Tuesday’s four-player team total of 307 by Saint Vincent was the lowest round of the event.

Grove City College sits in third with a 637 (319-318), followed by Thomas More College in fourth (644, 325-319) and Thiel College in fifth (656, 334-322). Westminster College is sixth (710, 363-347) with Bethany College seventh (808, 426-382) and Waynesburg University eighth (840, 442-398).

The 2014-15 PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes played at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships in April. The combined 72-hole team total will determine the 2014-15 PAC team champions and winners of the league's men's and women's automatic bids to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships.

W&J freshman Owen Miller (Burgettstown, Pa. / Burgettstown) became the Presidents’ first Fall Championship medalist since Brad Cieslinski (2010) after turning in a two-day total of 149 (77-72). Tuesday’s even-par 72 was the lowest individual round of the event.

Saint Vincent senior Micah Markantone (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional), the 2013 PAC Player of the Year and 2012 Fall Championship medalist, finished second with a 150 (76-74).

Grove City senior Brian Giesler (Harrisville, Pa. / Slippery Rock), a co-medalist at the 2013 Fall Championship, and Saint Vincent senior Jake Reed (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) tied for third with 153s.

New for 2014-15 season, the All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, will be determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships. In previous years, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams will be made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention).

The 36-hole PAC Spring Championship will be held Friday-Saturday, April 24-25 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa.
