NEW CASTLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Washington & Jefferson College women’s golf program holds a 19-stroke advantage over second-place Thomas More College after Monday's opening round of the 2014 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Fall Women’s Golf Championship.

The 2014 PAC Fall Golf Championships are being held Monday and Tuesday, September 29-30 at the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa.

Tuesday’s second round will get underway at 8:30 a.m.

The Presidents finished Monday’s first round with a four-player stroke total of 377. The Saints sit in second with a 396 team total.

Two-time defending PAC champion Grove City College is currently third (398), followed by Westminster College in fourth (414) and Saint Vincent College in fifth (425).
Thiel College finished its opening round sixth (431) followed by Waynesburg University in seventh (585).

The 2014-15 PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes played at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships in April. The combined 72-hole team total will determine the 2014-15 PAC team champions and winners of the league's men’s and women’s automatic bids to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships.

Monday’s top individual effort was turned in by Grove City senior Esther Durling (Perry, Mich. / Perry), who fired an 89 to lead the 36-player field. W&J senior Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa. / Seneca Valley) is just one shot back of Durling (90) heading into Tuesday’s second and final round of action. Thomas More freshman Shanna Doumont (Burlington, Ky. / Villa Madonna) is in third after posting a first-round score of 91.

New for 2014-15 season, the All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, will be determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships. In previous years, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams will be made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention).
