PAC Football Players of the Week (September 23, 2013)

PAC Offensive Player of the Week
Dion Wiegand • Senior Running Back • Wash. & Jeff. College
Pittsburgh, Pa. / Keystone Oaks

Wiegand rushed for a career-high 172 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday’s 40-19 win at Grove City. Wiegand’s five rushing touchdowns were the most by a President running back since Ryan Mendel also finished with five against Grove City on Oct. 21, 2006. Wiegand’s 76-yard touchdown run was the longest run by a W&J running back since Joey Nichols in 2001. He totaled 241 all-purpose yards in Saturday’s win and is one of just four players in NCAA Division III averaging three touchdowns per game this season.

PAC Defensive Player of the Week
John Onufer • Senior Linebacker • Geneva College
Pittsburgh, Pa. / Serra Catholic

Onufer posted a game-, season- and career-high 14 tackles (10 solo, 4 assist) and a tackle for loss in Geneva’s 49-28 victory over Thiel. Onufer helped the GTs limit the Tomcats to just 3-of-17 on third-down conversion chances and 315 total yards from scrimmage in the game.

PAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Zachary Taylor • Sophomore Wide Receiver • Geneva College
Salem, Ohio / United

Taylor’s 69-yard punt return for a touchdown in last Saturday’s 49-28 victory over visiting Thiel broke a 28-28 deadlock and snapped the Tomcats’ 22-point scoring run. His punt return for a touchdown was the first for Geneva since Jake Delmonico’s 93-yard scoring effort in the GTs 54-21 home win over Bethany on October 31, 2009. Taylor also added five catches for 39 yards in Saturday’s win.
