TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Washington & Jefferson College earned the top seed from the South Division, while Westminster College secured the top seed from the North Division for the eight-team Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Basketball Tournament, which will open with quarterfinal games on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Admission to all PAC Championship Tournament matches is $5 for adults and $2 for students, with students at PAC host institutions admitted for free with valid identification.
The PAC Championship Tournament for Men's Basketball will feature an eight-team championship bracket format. Quarterfinal match-ups will take place on Tuesday, February 24th. The semifinals will be played on Thursday, February 26th and the title game will take place on Saturday, February 28th. All games will be played at the higher seed.
If seeds are tied, the team with the higher overall conference record will earn the right to host. If seeds remain tied in overall conference record, tie-breaking procedures outlined in the PAC code will determine hosting rights.
By virtue of their 12-4 record through the PAC regular season, W&J earned home-court advantage throughout the Tournament. The Presidents finished with a 19-6 overall record and will host Geneva College, the four seed from the North Division, in a quarterfinal in Game A. W&J edged Geneva 68-64 when the teams faced off in Washington on Jan. 10th in their regular season meeting.
Allegheny College, the two seed out of the North Division, will host Franciscan University, the South Division's three seed, in Game D on Tuesday. The teams just met on Feb. 14th in Meadville and Franciscan left with an 81-66 triumph over the Gators.
The bracket's other half includes the top seed in the North Division, Westminster College, who posted a 12-4 PAC record, hosting Saint Vincent College, the South Division's four seed, in the quarterfinals. When the teams met during the regular season on Jan. 10th in New Wilmington, Westminster escaped with an 89-83 victory in overtime.
Defending champion Chatham, who earned the second seed out of the South Division, will host North Division three seed Grove City College in a Tuesday quarterfinal. The teams matched up on Jan. 17th at Chatham, with the Cougars pulling out a 67-61 win.
Thursday's semifinals will have the W&J/Geneva winner taking on the winner from Allegheny/Franciscan. The other semifinal will pit the winning team from Westminster/Saint Vincent against the side emerging from the Chatham/Grove City contest. Information on the semifinal round will be announced following Tuesday's quarterfinals. The semifinal winners will advance to the PAC Championship Game on Saturday, Feb. 28th, which will be broadcast by the PAC Sports Network.
In last year's conference tournament, No. 1 seed Chatham was an 81-69 winner over W&J in the title game.
The winner of the PAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Selections for the NCAA Tournament will be announced Monday, March 2nd.
