TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Both higher seeds protected their home fields with third-seeded Geneva College and fourth-seeded Franciscan University advancing out of Saturday's Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Soccer Tournament opening round.

Geneva (8-2-6) faced the greater challenge, tying No. 6 Waynesburg University (8-8-3) 1-1 before advancing on penalty kicks, 6-5. That puts the Golden Tornadoes on the road for Wednesday's semifinal at No. 2 Allegheny College (11-6-1) at 7:45 pm.

In Saturday night's quarterfinal, Franciscan (7-6-4) broke a scoreless match with two early second-half goals and the Barons went on to a 3-1 victory over fifth-seeded Hiram College (7-5-5). Top seed and defending champion Grove City College (11-2-5) awaits Franciscan in Wednesday's semifinal in an 8 pm kickoff.

The semifinal winners will meet in the PAC Tournament Championship Match, which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7th at the highest remaining seed.

PAC Quarterfinal 1 - Beaver Falls, Pa.
No. 3 Geneva 1, No. 6 Waynesburg 1 - 2 OT (GEN advances in PKs, 6-5)
- The match nearly went to halftime scoreless, but Geneva scored with 32 seconds left before intermission on a goal by sophomore Elijah Jurisch (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood), which was assisted by freshman Westin Edmonds (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) and freshman Eli Stasiowski (Mars, Pa./Mars).
- That goal looked like it might be enough, but in the 82nd minute, a Geneva foul gave Waynesburg a penalty kick. Junior Sarpong Kwabiah (Odenton, Md./Meade) converted to even the score at 1-1, which is where it stood at the end of regulation.
- Geneva keeper Stasiowski made a pair of saves in the first OT, while Waynesburg senior goalkeeper Zach Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) stopped two shots in the second overtime, keeping the game tied and sending it to PKs after 110 minutes of play.
- Penalty kicks rolled through the first five rounbds with each team converting before a Waynesburg miss in the sixth round.
- Geneva sophomore Msafiri Amisi (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) finished on his attempt to give Geneva win and send them to the next round.
- Stasiowski registered eight saves in the match for Geneva and was matched with eight stops by Reed in the Yellow Jackets' net.

PAC Quarterfinal 2 - Steubenville, Ohio
No. 4 Franciscan 3, No. 5 Hiram 1
- Solid first halves by both keepers kept it 0-0 at halftime, as Franciscan senior Aiden Miller (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) stopped four shots and Hiram sophomore Derek Ufholz (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor)
 made three saves.
- Just 6:17 into the second half, Franciscan broke through with a goal by sophomore Andrew Goduti (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), with an assist from freshman Noah Haggerty (Xenia, Ohio/Archbishop Carroll).
- In the 57th minuute, Goduti struck for his second of the match, this one set up on an assist from senior Anthony Venditti (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville), to make it a 2-0 Barons' lead.
- Franciscan tacked on an insurance goal in the 71st minute when Venditti converted a penalty kick.
- Hiram did get on the scoreboard in the 75th minute when senior Jimmy Zeilmann (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) assisted on a goal by sophomore Ethan Garner (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North), but the Terriers managed just one more shot the rest of the match.
- Miller finished with seven saves in the victory.
