TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Hiram College earned the top seed from the North Division, while Washington & Jefferson College secured the top seed from the South Division for the eight-team Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Volleyball Tournament, which will open with quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Admission to all PAC Championship Tournament matches is $5 for adults and $2 for students, with students at PAC host institutions admitted for free with valid identification.
The PAC Championship Tournament for Women’s Volleyball will feature an eight-team championship bracket format. Quarterfinal matches will take place on Tuesday, November 11th, with all scheduled to begin at 7 pom. The semifinals will be played on Thursday, November 13th and the championship match will take place on Saturday, November 15th. All matches will be played at the higher seed.
If seeds are tied, the team with the higher overall conference record will earn the right to host. If seeds remain tied in overall conference record, tie-breaking procedures outlined in the PAC code will be followed to determine hosting rights.
By virtue of their 15-1 record through the conference regular season, Hiram will have home-court advantage throughout the Tournament. The Terriers, who are in their first year in the PAC since 1988, compiled a 24-2 overall record and will host Saint Vincent College, the four seed from the North Division, in a quarterfinal in Match B. Hiram defeated Saint Vincent 3-0 when the teams played at Hiram on Sept. 27th in their regular season meeting.
In Match C on Tuesday, Chatham University, the South Division two seed, will host Westminster College, the three seed from the North Division. When the teams faced Oct. 11 in the regular season, Chatham was a 3-2 winner over the Titans in a match played in Pittsburgh.
The other half of the bracket includes the top seed in the South Division, W&J, who posted an 11-5 PAC record, hosting Grove City College, the North Division four seed, in the quarterfinals. Grove City was the winner in the one regular season tilt between the programs, claiming a 3-1 victory in Washington on Oct. 10.
Thiel College, who earned the second seed out of the North Division, is slated to host South Division third seed Franciscan University in a Tuesday opening-round match. The teams played on Oct. 18th at Franciscan with the Barons sweeping Thiel 3-0.
Thursday's semifinals will have the Hiram/Saint Vincent winner taking on the winner from Chatham/Westminster. The other semifinal will pit the winning side from W&J/Grove City against the team emerging from the Thiel/Franciscan contest. Information on the semifinal round will be announced following Tuesday's quarterfinals. The semifinal winners will advance to the PAC Championship Game on Saturday, Nov. 15, which will be broadcast by the PAC Sports Network.
In last year's conference tournament, Allegheny College won their first PAC championship by defeating Saint Vincent 3-0 in the title game.
The winner of the PAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Selections for the NCAA Tournament will be announced Monday, Nov. 17th, with Regionals running from Nov. 20-22.
