TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Following the completion of its fall schedule and postseason tournament, the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) announced the 2025 All-PAC Women’s Tennis teams and yearly award winners Friday afternoon.
The all-conference teams, along with this year’s annual award winners and sportsmanship team selections, were decided by a vote of the league’s nine head coaches.
Allegheny College, who won the PAC title with a 4-1 victory over Grove City College in the Tournament final on Oct. 18th, claimed all three major awards. Earning not only PAC Player of the Year but also the conference's Newcomer of the Year award was Allegheny freshman Gabrielle Bassette, while the PAC Coach of the Year honor went to fifth-year Gator head coach Dave Hayden.
The sweep of the top awards makes Bassette the second PAC player to win both honors since the conference started recognizing the top newcomer and first since Westminster College's Amanda Barrett earned both awards since the spring of 2021. She is also the first Allegheny player to be the league's Player of the Year and win Newcomer of the Year since the Gators returned to the PAC in 2022.
In leading the Gators to the PAC Championship, Bassette rolled through an undefeated singles season, going 15-0, including a 7-0 mark in PAC regular season. She won 13 of those in straight sets, with her first three-set victory coming in a Sept. 13th match against Otterbein University's Daniela De Mata at the Wooster Invitational. Her second was when she out-lasted 2024 PAC Player of the Year and a First Team All-PAC selection this year, Carolina Walters from Saint Vincent College, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) on Oct. 6th.
Bassette was nearly as impressive in doubles. She teamed with senior Maria Lounder for a 9-0 record during the season, which included winning five PAC regular season matches and adding victories in the PAC Tournament. Her overall doubles record for the fall was 17-2, including nine straight to close out the season.
This marks the second Coach of the Year honor for Hayden during his time at Allegheny and fourth overall, including two accolades in the spring of 2021 and 2016 when he was head coach at Westminster. He guided the Gators to a 12-0 record this fall and an unblemished 8-0 PAC slate. Since returning to the PAC in 2022, Allegheny is a perfect 32-0 against PAC competition in regular season action and captured three of four PAC Tournament titles.
The most recent Tournament crown was earned Oct. 18th with the win over Grove City, which came after a 4-0 triumph in the semifinals over Washington & Jefferson College. Lounder, who added Honorable Mention All-PAC in singles with her First Team award in doubles, was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament after she posted a 4-0 record in the two wins.
As this year's tournament champion, Allegheny clinched the PAC's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. Team selections will be announced Monday, May 4, 2026. The opening weekend of the Division III Championships which will feature first, second and third round matches, will be Friday-Sunday, May 8-10.
