LATROBE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - Saint Vincent College head women's volleyball coach Sue Hozak earned her 700th career victory in the Bearcats' 3-0 sweep against Geneva College on Saturday afternoon in the Robert S. Carey Center.
Hozak became the ninth active and 24th all-time Division III coach to reach 700 wins. Saint Vincent's only women's volleyball coach in program history, Hozak has earned six District or Conference Coach of the Year awards and guided the Bearcats to 15 seasons with 20 or more wins in her career.
The Bearcats (5-9, 4-4 PAC) are now on a two-game PAC winning streak after sweeping the Golden Tornadoes (4-17, 1-7 PAC) in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22.
Sophomore Meegan Williams continued her double-double streak with 12 kills and 13 digs to lead Saint Vincent. Freshman Bailey Green added 17 assists, while sophomore Dakota Hershberger recorded six kills and 11 digs.
Freshman Brenna McCracken recorded 11 digs and junior Madie Eagler totaled 10 assists, while sophomore Aubrey Siwula recorded six kills for the Bearcats in the win.
Senior Lauren Fox recorded a match-high five blocks, while sophomore Vivian Wirth added three of her own.
It was back-and-forth through the middle portions of the opening set, as the Bearcats held a slight 14-13 lead. SVC went on a quick 9-1 run that put the Bearcats up by a score of 23-14. After back-to-back Geneva points, the Bearcats scored two consecutive points of their own on Geneva attack errors to give the Bearcats the set win (25-16) and a 1-0 lead in the match.
In set two, it was much of the same story. Both teams traded points back-and-forth, but this time Geneva held a slight 20-19 lead in the late portion of the set. SVC went on to score the next five consecutive points on five straight Geneva errors to put SVC up 24-20. Geneva scored two more points, before an attack error allowed the Bearcats to win the set (25-22), taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
SVC controlled the entirety of the third set. Saint Vincent went on to take a 24-18 lead, but the GT's had one last effort in them. Geneva scored four straight points, cutting the lead to 24-22, before a kill from Siwula won the set for Saint Vincent (25-22) and the match 3-0.
Saint Vincent totaled nine blocks in the win, while scooping up 71 digs as well.
