2024 All-PAC Men's Tennis Teams, Award Winners Released

TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released the 2024 all-conference men's tennis teams and annual award winners Friday. The All-PAC teams, along with the yearly award winners, are determined by vote of the conference's nine head coaches.

Allegheny College, now winners of back-to-back PAC championships, claimed two of the three major awards. Gator junior Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) was selected as the PAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while Allegheny third-year head coach Dave Hayden earned PAC Coach of the Year laurels.

The PAC Newcomer of the Year went to Franciscan University freshman Aaron Heinlein (Erie, Pa./McDowell).

Hedlund repeated as the Player of the Year, the first to earn consecutive awards since Jonathan Pritchard from Saint Vincent College won three in a row from 2016-18. Hedlund compiled a 20-5 singles record this season and has won 15 straight matches, including an undefeated 8-0 singles mark against PAC competition. He also has a 23-7 doubles record, highlighted by a 20-5 record with sophomore David Rodriguez (Trinidad & Tobago/St. Anne's), as the duo earned First Team All-PAC in doubles play.

In addition to winning his second consecutive PAC Player of the Year award, Hedlund also earned his second straight Most Outstanding Player of the PAC Tournament. He went 2-0 in doubles and 1-0 in singles as the Gators defeated Franciscan 5-1 in the semifinals and Grove City 5-1 in the championship match in Allegheny's second title run in a row.

Heinlein is the second Franciscan player to win top Newcomer honors in the last three years, joining current Baron junior Travis Mistry (Groves, Texas/Sabine Pass), who won the recognition in 2022. Heinlein was 8-7 this season in singles play, playing mostly at No. 2, which included a 5-2 mark in PAC matches. In addition to earning First Team All-PAC honors in singles play, Heinlein was also voted First Team All-PAC in doubles with freshman Christopher Yvars (Bow, N.H./Bow) after the tandem went 5-1 in PAC matches as part of an 11-4 record overall.

Hayden earned the Coach of the Year Award for the second season in a row after he led the Gators to a repeat conference title. It was the sixth league championship in program history, which came after the Gators went 8-0 in PAC play for their second straight unbeaten regular season in conference play.

By winning this year's PAC Championship Tournament, Allegheny earned the conference's automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The Gators will open NCAA play Saturday against Messiah in a first round match at 10 am in a match held at Middlebury College in Vermont, who will serve as the regional host.
