PAC Releases Women's Soccer Award Winners, All-Conference Teams

TRAFFORD, Pa. (pacathletics.org) - The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its All-PAC women's soccer teams and yearly award winners Tuesday afternoon, which were determined through voting by the league's 11 head coaches.

Grove City College junior forward Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) was selected as the PAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Westminster College senior defender Sophia Galietta (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) earned PAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. The PAC Newcomer of the Year award went to Westminster freshman forward Chloe LaRosa (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) and voted as the PAC Coach of the Year by his peers was Saint Vincent College head coach Bryan Butler.

Herrmann is the 10th Grove City player to earn Player of the Year honors and first since Ruby Mattson in 2019, which was the last year the Wolverines won the PAC championship. The dynamic forward finished the year with PAC-highs in goals (20) and points (43) and second in game-winning goals with six. Herrmann's 20 goals this season are No. 2 on Grove City's single-season scoring list, as are her 43 points, and the 20 goals are also tied for 14th in NCAA Division III this season.

Eleven of Herrmann's goals came against PAC opposition and she was instrumental in the Wolverines capturing their eighth PAC title last week. She had two goals and one assist in the 3-1 PAC Tournament semifinal victory over Waynesburg University and followed that with a pair of goals in the 4-2 title game triumph over Franciscan University. After notching nine total points in the tournament wins, Herrmann was named the PAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Galietta was the anchor on a very solid Westminster backline this season. The Titans shut out seven opponents this year, including three in PAC play. Overall, Westminster tied for the PAC-low by allowing just 12 goals this season and the eight given up in conference matches was tied for second-fewest in the league.

In addition to her defensive work, Galietta, who is now a three-time All-PAC selection with back-to-back First Team accolades, chipped in with seven points (2g/3a) as well. All of her points came in PAC victories, including a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at Chatham Sept. 30 and one goal in the Oct. 11th 2-0 victory over Geneva.

While Galietta ends her Titan career with a PAC award, LaRosa's career begins with a conference honor. The first-year forward ranked second in the conference this season with 16 goals and 35 points, while her seven game-winning goals were the most in the league. LaRosa had a pair of hat tricks early in the season as part of a seven-game streak with at least one goal, which included single tallies in wins over Saint Vincent Sept. 19th and Allegheny Sept. 23rd.

In all, five of her goals came in PAC matches, including the game-winning score in victories over Saint Vincent, Waynesburg and Thiel.

The PAC Newcomer of the Year award has become synonymous
with Westminster since the PAC began recognizing its most outstanding first-year players in 2019. In the five years the award has been presented, a Titan player has won it four times, including three straight now with LaRosa in 2023, sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) in 2022 and junior forward Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) in 2021.

In just his second season guiding the Saint Vincent program, Butler led the Bearcats to a 10-4-4 overall record and a 6-2-2 mark in the conference. It was SVC's first 10-win season since 2013 and just the seventh double-digit win season in the program's 30-year history. The six PAC victories are the program's most since becoming a full league member in 2011.

As the winner of this year's championship tournament, Grove City also received the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship. Grove City is scheduled to play at eighth-ranked and defending national runner-up Case Western Reserve University in the opening round Saturday at 11 a.m. This is Grove City sixth all-time appearance in the Division III Championship and first since 2019.
