Westminster claims PAC women's golf title

BELLE VERNON, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Westminster College won its fourth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women'’s Golf Championship team title Monday afternoon. 

Westminster posted a team score of 334 Monday and registered a 54-hole team score of 1013. The Titans came into the final round with a 59-stroke lead.

The title is Westminster's seventh. 

The women played the final 18 holes of this year's 54-hole championship event at Cedarbrook Golf Course. The 37 participating players completed a round on the Red Course. 

The 36-hole fall event was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio on October 13-14. The women played a pair of rounds at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna, Ohio. 

Washington & Jefferson College finished as the runner-up (1109). Thiel College was third (1115), Geneva College was fourth (1147), Grove City College was fifth (1256), Franciscan University was sixth (1362) and Waynesburg University was seventh (1471). Saint Vincent College competed as individuals. 

Westminster junior Erika Hoover (New Castle, Pa. | Wilmington) earned PAC Player of the Year honors with a three-round score of 244. She fired an 85 Monday after posting rounds of 81 and 78 last fall. Hoover earned fall medalist honors. 

W&J freshman Chrstina McGinnis (Clearfield, Pa. | Clearfield) was named the PAC Newcomer of the Year. She finished in fourth place with a three-round score of 254. McGinnis posted an 89 Monday after fall rounds of 81 and 84. 

Westminster head coach Matt Torrence was voted the PAC Coach of the Year for the fourth-straight year.

The All-PAC teams, along with the PAC Player of the Year and PAC Newcomer of the Year, are determined by the combined 54-hole scores from the fall and spring championships. The All-PAC teams are made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention).

As this year's PAC team champion, Westminster secured the league's automatic qualifying bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship. Team selections for the Division III Championship will be announced Monday, May 2. The Division III Championship is scheduled for May 10-13 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston.
