Westminster earns PAC men's golf title

WHEELING, W.Va. (pacathletics.org)--Westminster College claimed its second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Golf Championship team title Saturday evening.  

Westminster posted a team score of 307 Saturday and registered a 54-hole team score of 892. The Titans came into the final round with a 21-stroke lead.

The title is Westminster's fifth.

The men played the final 18 holes of this year's 54-hole championship event at Oglebay Resort’s Speidel Golf Club. The 40 participating players completed a round on the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. course.

The 36-hole fall event was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio on October 13-14. The men played two rounds at Avalon Lakes in Warren.

Washington & Jefferson College finished as the runner-up (936). Thiel College was third (969), Grove City College was fourth (970), Waynesburg University was fifth (1015), Geneva College was sixth (1035) and Saint Vincent College was seventh (1050). Bethany College completed Saturday's round with a 446. 

W&J junior Colin Robinson (Inverness, Ill. | William Fremd) earned PAC Player of the Year honors with a three-round score of 215. He fired a five-over 76 Saturday after posting rounds of 71 and 76 last fall. In 2020 he claimed the league's player of the year and newcomer of the year awards.


Grove City freshman Adam Steinmetz (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Allegheny) was named the PAC Newcomer of the Year. He finished in 10th place with a three-round score of 241. Steinmetz posted an 86 Saturday after fall rounds of 75 and 80. 

Westminster head coach Matt Torrence was voted the PAC Coach of the Year for the second-straight year. 

The All-PAC teams, along with the PAC Player of the Year and PAC Newcomer of the Year, are determined by the combined 54-hole scores from the fall and spring championships. The All-PAC teams are made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention).


As this year's PAC team champion, Westminster secured the league's automatic qualifying bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship. Team selections for the Division III Championship will be announced Monday, May 2. The Division III Championship is scheduled for May 10-13 at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
