The weekly award winners have been recognized for their performances during Week 1 of the 2022-23 season.
 

PAC Player of the Week

Lyle Tipton • Geneva • Senior guard/forward • Glenside, Pa. | Phil-Mont Christian Academy Tipton tied his career high with 39 points in Wednesday night’s 113-108 season-opening victory over Hiram… Twenty-two of his 39 points were scored in the second half… Tipton went 16-of-21 from the floor (.762), knocked down 3-of-4 (.750) three-point tries and hit 4-of-5 (.800) free throws… He also added seven rebounds and three steals in the victory… Tipton’s jumper with 35 seconds remaining in regulation gave Geneva a 111-108 lead.

Other notable performers

Allegheny senior Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho | Mount Lebanon) averaged 20.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game last week… He posted a 26-point, 12-rebound double-double in Tuesday’s win over Fredonia State… Bethany sophomore Chance Wells (Wooster, Ohio | Triway) averaged 16.5 points and 2.0 rebounds last week… He had 20 points and three boards Tuesday at Penn State Fayette… Chatham sophomore Isaiah Smith (Ambridge, Pa. | Lincoln Park) averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists last week… Sunday against Baruch he finished with 18 points, four assists and three boards… Grove City sophomore Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa. | Warwick) averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in his first two collegiate starts last week… He had 22 points in Wednesday’s win at Penn State DuBois… Saint Vincent junior Tayler McNeal (Toledo, Ohio | St. Francis De Sales) averaged 16.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game last week… He had 16 points and five rebounds in Thursday’s win over Juniata, and hit a buzzer-beater to send the game into overtime… Thiel graduate student Ahmad Tejumula (Waldorf, Md. | Saint Charles) averaged 14.3 points and 9.7 rebounds last week… He recorded a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double Friday in a win over Penn State Shenango… W&J junior Nick Gearhart (Huntingdon, Pa. | Huntingdon) posted a career-high 29 points and seven boards in Tuesday’s win at Penn State Altoona… Waynesburg graduate student Matt Popeck (Washington, Pa. | Washington) had 17 points and five rebounds Tuesday against Kenyon… Westminster junior Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio | Springfield Local) averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds last week… He recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double in a win over Penn State Shenango Saturday… The 24 points were a career high for Clark.

 

PAC Rookie of the Week

Jaden Gales • Saint Vincent • Freshman forward • Pittsburgh, Pa. | Bishop Canevin Gales averaged 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in Saint Vincent’s three victories last week… He shot 55.6 percent (20-36) from the floor and was 7-of-10 (.700) from the free throw line… In his collegiate debut, an 81-61 win over Penn State Shenango Tuesday, Gales had nine points and seven boards… He finished with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double in Thursday’s 73-67 overtime win over Juniata… Gales scored a game-high 22 points and added nine rebounds in Saturday’s 69-56 win over Carlow.

Allegheny freshman Ryan Lang (Saver, Pa. | Knoch) averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds last week… He totaled 12 points off the bench in Tuesday’s win over Fredonia State… Bethany freshman Cole Dailey (East Liverpool, Ohio | East Liverpool) averaged 12.0 points and 9.5 rebounds last week… He scored 15 points and added eight boards Tuesday at Penn State Fayette… Grove City freshman Daniel Penosky (Fort Mill, S.C. | Legion Academy) averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and made 5-of-10 three-point tries last week… Thiel freshman Mike Brown (Clinton, Md. | Gwynn Park) averaged 7.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 rebounds per game last week… He had 11 points in Saturday’s double overtime loss to Southern Virginia… W&J freshman Matt Seidl (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Hills) averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game last week… He had 19 points off the bench in Tuesday’s win at Penn State Altoona… Westminster freshman Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio | West Branch) averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 rebounds last week… He had 12 points and three boards in Saturday’s win over Southern Virginia.
