PAC honors all-conference men's swimming and diving squads 2/26/2020 11:00:00 AM GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced its 2019-20 All-PAC Men's Swimming and Diving teams (pdf) Wednesday, with a total of 39 student-athletes recognized for their efforts at this year's PAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The all-conference swimming and diving teams are determined by a formula-based selection process using student-athletes' individual and relay finishes at the league’s annual championships. Twenty student-athletes earned a spot on the All-PAC First Team. Eighteen were named to the All-PAC Second Team while one was named an All-PAC Honorable Mention. Grove City College led the way with 15 all-conference selections. Westminster College totaled 11 honorees and was followed by Saint Vincent College (9), Washington & Jefferson College (3) and Chatham University (1). The Grove City men claimed their second-straight PAC title on Feb. 15. It was the program's 20th league championship. Grove City paced the six-team championship field with 1085 points. Westminster, this year's runner-up, totaled 852 points. Saint Vincent (685), W&J (285), Bethany (125) and Chatham (37) rounded out the team scoring. The conference championships were once again held at Grove City's James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. Longnecker Pool has been the home of the league’s championships since 1990. PAC Swimmer of the Year honors went to Saint Vincent junior Zach Baum (Derry, Pa. | Derry). On Feb. 13, Baum won the 50 free with a time of 20.65 seconds. He won the 100 fly on Feb. 14 for the third-straight year, finishing with a NCAA Division III B-cut time of 48.92. His time of 48.35 in the preliminaries established new Longnecker Pool, PAC Open and PAC Championships records. On Feb. 15, Baum won the 100 free (45.90) after posting a time of 45.54 in the preliminaries. Westminster junior Connor May (Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Glacier Park) was named the PAC’s Diver of the Year for the third-straight year. On Feb. 13, May won the 11-dive, three-meter event with a score of 568.50. May won the 11-dive, one-meter event on Feb. 14 with a score of 553. May qualified for the Division III Regional Championships in both diving events. Grove City freshman Elias Griffin (Springfield, Va. | West Springfield) was named the PAC Newcomer of the Year. He was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (58.04), finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.14) and was eighth in the 100 fly (54.23). PAC Swimming Coach of the Year honors went to Grove City head coach Dave Fritz for the eighth time in his career. Westminster assistant coach Heath Calhoun claimed the PAC’s Diving Coach of the Year award for the third-straight year. The PAC’s Sportsmanship Teams, announced Feb. 15, were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all conference teams.
