Case Western Reserve wins PAC title outright 11/10/2019 1:05:30 AM Box WAYNESBURG, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Case Western Reserve University earned this year’s Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title and automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with a 27-24 victory over Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon at John F. Wiley Stadium. The outright PAC championship is the first in the program’s history. The Spartans shared the league title with Washington & Jefferson College in 2017. Case Western Reserve improved to 9-0 overall, and 8-0 in the PAC, with Saturday’s win. The Spartans will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. next week to take on rival Carnegie Mellon University in the 34th annual Academic Bowl. Kickoff at Gesling Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. next Saturday. Junior Travis Johnston (Zanesville, Ohio | Bishop Rosencrans) scored a pair of touchdowns for the Spartans Saturday. He returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, the first CWRU player to return a kickoff for a score since Bobby Bott went 84 yards on Sept. 13, 2008. Johnston added a one-yard scoring run with 9:41 to play in the third quarter. He also logged seven tackles (4 solo) in the win. Sophomore Drew Saxton (South Fayette, Pa. | South Fayette) completed 22-of-38 passes for 239 yards. He also scored on a six-yard run with 11:39 to play in the second quarter. Junior Colt Morgan (Wooster, Ohio | Wooster) hauled in seven passes for 94. Freshman Lucas DeCaro (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Mount Lebanon) totaled seven catches for 68 yards. Junior Joshua Smith (Atlanta, Ga. | Benjamin E. Mays) paced Case Western Reserve’s defensive effort with a game-high 13 tackles (10 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss and an interception. Senior Patrick Crossey (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) added 12 stops (7 solo). Sophomore Robertson Albrecht (Aurora, Ohio | Aurora) made 2-of-3 field goals (33, 21). His 39-yard attempt with 2:53 to play in the third quarter was blocked. Waynesburg freshman Justin Flack (Derry, Pa. | Derry) eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the third-straight game, finishing with a game-high 126 yards on 21 carries. Junior Mason Schrenker (Robinson, Pa. | Montour) completed 22-of-37 passes for 2014 yards and a touchdown. He also ran eight times for 58 yards and a score. Junior Cole Booth (Berlin, Pa. | Berlin Brothersvalley) finished with eight grabs for 58 yards and a touchdown. Senior Tyler Smith (Poland, Ohio | Poland) led the Yellow Jackets with a team-high 12 tackles (7), 2.0 tackles for loss and a half sack.
