Thomas More women fall to Amherst in Division III Championship semifinals
ROCHESTER, Minn. (pacathletics.org) – Third-ranked Thomas More College was dealt a 66-48 loss by top-ranked Amherst College Friday evening at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minnesota.
With Friday’s semifinal win, Amherst (32-0) advances to Saturday’s title game to face the winner of tonight’s nightcap featuring fifth-ranked Bowdoin College (28-2) and second-ranked Wartburg College (31-0).
Thomas More junior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio | Anderson) finished with a team-high 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore guard Taylor Jolly (Alexandria, Ky. | Campbell County) added nine points while senior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Spring, Ky. | Newport Central Catholic) chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks.
Emma McCarthy led Amherst with a game-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds and a pair of assists. Madeline Eck added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists while Hannah Hackley totaled 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.
