(pacathletics.org)--Three Grove City College soccer players earned United Soccer Coaches Division III Scholar All-America honors Monday afternoon through voting by the nation's head men's and women's soccer coaches. On the men's side, senior midfielder Jon Burton (Columbus, Ohio | Worthington Christian) earned Scholar All-America Second Team honors. Meanwhile, the Grove City women's soccer program produced a pair of Scholar All-Americans, senior forward Krista Heckman (Lock Haven, Pa. | Central Mountain) and senior defender Claire Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley). Heckman captured Second Team distinction and Kocur earned Third Team laurels. The three honorees are the first United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Americans in Grove City College soccer history. Burton earned Scholar All-America after scoring 11 goals and adding three assists in 22 matches this year. A First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and All-Great Lakes selection, Burton ranked second on the team with 25 points. He concluded his career fifth all-time at Grove City with 31 goals. Burton's 72 career points rank sixth on the Wolverines' career list. He has compiled a 3.71 cumulative grade-point average (GPA while majoring in biology. Burton previously earned Google Cloud/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District recognition this fall. Burton helped Grove City to the conference's regular season title and a 15-3-4 overall record. The Wolverines advanced to the second round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship Tournament. Heckman led Grove City with eight assists and six game-winning goals this season. A United Soccer Coaches All-American and the 2018 PAC Player of the Year, Heckman ranked second on the team with 10 goals and 28 total points this season. She started all 22 matches. Heckman has achieved a 3.39 GPA while majoring in communication studies. Kocur helped anchor a defense that recorded 11 shutouts and held opponents to a 0.75 goals-against average in 22 matches. Grove City did not surrender a goal against conference opposition this season. Kocur added one goal and one assist in 19 starts this season. She has earned a 3.39 cumulative GPA as a communication studies major. Heckman and Kocur helped lead Grove City to a 17-4-1 overall record and the conference title. The Wolverines made their fourth all-time NCAA Division III Championship appearance and downed defending national runner-up University of Chicago in the first round. The 2018 season marked the second time that Grove City has reached the second round of the national tournament. Earlier Monday, all three players earned Scholar All-East Region from United Soccer Coaches. To be eligible for Scholar All-America, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career and start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his/her team.
