(pacathletics.org) – Seventeenth-ranked Washington & Jefferson College secured its league-best 26th Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) football title Saturday with a 33-14 win over longtime rival Waynesburg University. W&J concludes its regular season with a 9-1 overall record and 8-1 mark in the PAC. By virtue of claiming the PAC title Saturday, the Presidents earn the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's NCAA Division III Championship. It is W&J’s 26th time securing a spot in the national championship field. Team selections and first round matchups for the Division III Championship are scheduled to be announced Sunday, November 11 at 5:30 p.m. (EST) with an online selection show available at ncaa.com. First round games are scheduled for Saturday, November 17. Sophomore running back EJ Thompson (La Plata, Md. | Thomas Stone) ran for a career-high 186 yards and a touchdown Saturday’s win, highlighting the Presidents’ 359 rushing yards. The total was the most in a single game for W&J since posting 367 yards against Thiel College on November 8, 2014. Junior running back Jordan West (Washington, Pa. | Washington) added 138 yards and a pair of scores to give W&J its first 100-plus yard rushing tandem since Pete Coughlin and Austin Kemp in the Presidents’ win over Saint Vincent College on October 29, 2016. Sophomore wide receiver Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio | Hillsdale) eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the eighth time this season, finishing with six passes for 127 yards. Wolf caught two touchdown passes in Saturday’s victory to push his season total to 21, a new W&J and PAC single-season record. His 21 receiving touchdowns are the most for a NCAA Division III player in a season since the University of Dubuque’s Tyler Rutenback hauled in 22 in 2013. Defensively, junior linebacker Nick Getz (Tyrone, Pa. | Tyrone) and sophomore linebacker Sean Doran (New Castle, Pa. | Neshannock) tied for the team lead with seven tackles apiece. Getz matched junior defensive lineman Jeffrey Oxner (Silver Spring, Md. | Bullis School) with 1.5 tackles for loss as part of W&J's seven tackles for loss on the day.
