Case’s Dishong, W&J’s Ruffing named to D3football.com Team of the Week 9/10/2014 1:47:23 PM MINNEAPOLIS (pacathletics.org) – Case Western Reserve University junior linebacker Everett Dishong (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and Washington & Jefferson College junior running back Ryan Ruffing (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) were named to the D3Football.com National Team of the Week for their performances in season-opening home victories over Carnegie Mellon University and The College of Wooster. Also the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Player of the Week, Dishong totaled a game-high and career-best 13 tackles in the week one win. Dishong's four tackles for loss were a career high, while his two sacks and three pass break-ups matched personal bests. Dishong becomes the first Spartan to be named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week since Dan Calabrese earned the honor in October 2011. Now in his second season as a starter, Dishong has 88 career tackles (16 for loss), 6.5 sacks and 10 pass break-ups. Ruffing, also named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Week, rushed 37 times for 150 yards and found the end zone five times to help W&J rally from a 17-7 deficit and earn the 51-17 season-opening win against Wooster. He scored on runs of nine, one, seven, two and five yards, respectively, and finished one touchdown shy of W&J’s single-game record of six rushing scores, set in 1905 by Roy Hupp against Ohio University. He also tied former W&J running back Dion Wiegand’s five touchdown effort against Grove City in 2013 for the second-most single-game rushing scores in PAC history. Case Western Reserve (1-0, 1-0 PAC) is in the midst of a bye week and will next play at Saint Vincent College (0-1) on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. at Chuck Noll Field. W&J (1-0) will travel to Westminster College (0-1) on Saturday, September 13 for a non-conference tilt with the Titans. Kickoff at Harold Burry Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
