The Bearcats entered the final day of the championships with a 16-stroke lead over second-place Washington & Jefferson College and used a low round of 298 on Tuesday to secure a 27-stroke victory with a four-round shot total of 1,204. Saint Vincent sophomore Micah Markantone became the second-straight Bearcat golfer to win PAC Player of the Year honors after junior Sam Cline's win in 2012. Markantone’s 73 tied him for the best round of the day on Tuesday with Grove City College sophomore Christian Locher and helped him finish just two strokes ahead of sophomore teammate Tim Barto (75-74-149) for medalist honors. Markantone carded a two-day total of 147 (74-73) over two-day spring event. He was also named the 2012 PAC Fall Golf Invitational medalist. W&J finished second with a four-round total of 1,231, followed by Grove City in third (1,243), Thiel College in fourth (1,245), Thomas More College in fifth (1,276), Westminster College in sixth (1,314) and Bethany College in seventh (1,487). Waynesburg University finished the two-day spring event with a four-player stroke total of 722 but competed only as individuals during the Fall Golf Invitational. Saint Vincent head coach Dr. Tom Cline was named PAC Coach of the Year after guiding his Bearcat program to the conference title Tuesday afternoon. The conference title for Saint Vincent gives them the PAC’s automatic qualifying bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, which is being hosted by the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla. from May 14-17. The PAC Championship format features four rounds of competition -- two in the fall and two in the spring. Each of the four rounds count toward the team championship, while Conference Player of the Year and individual All-PAC teams are determined exclusively by scores at the 36-hole PAC Spring Championship.
