W&J CAPTURES 2008 PAC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2008 PAC Golf Championships concluded on Monday-Tuesday, April 21-22 at Oak Tree
Country Club in West Middlesex, Pa., with Washington &
Jefferson College capturing both the men's & women's team
titles.
On the men's side, W&J fired a four-man
total of 302-297-599 to top the field and earn the first-ever PAC
automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championships. Saint Vincent, while ineligible for the PAC title due to its NCAA Division III provisional status, fired the low men's team score
in the eight-round championship series with 2448, five strokes ahead
of W&J. Medalist honors went to Brad Cieslinski of W&J, who
edged Tyler Fitch of Grove City in a one-hole playoff for the
title. The women's standings
saw W&J post a 357-350-707 to easily outdistance second place
Westminster. W&J sophomore Leslie Walker earned medalist
honors for the second consecutive year, while President first-year
head coach Blake Tyson was named 2008 PAC Men's & Women's
Golf Coach of the Year.
MCMILLEN HIRED AS NEW THIEL GOLF
COACH
Thiel College announced on
March 20 that
Dan McMillen
has been named the new men's and women's head golf coach for the
Tomcats. McMillen has been the club and teaching professional at
The Greens of Greenville (formerly Greenville Country Club) for the
past 17 years. McMillen is a local product who graduated from Thiel
in 1986 with a degree in business administration. During his
college career, McMillen was a four-year letter winner on the Tomcat
golf team.
BLAKE TYSON HIRED AS W&J GOLF HEAD
COACH
Blake Tyson was hired as
the new head men’s and women’s golf coach at Washington & Jefferson
on February 15. He replaces Pete Coughlin, who resigned to take the
head men’s golf coaching job at NCAA D-II California (Pa.). Tyson is
a former Division I golfer at Duquesne University (2000-2004).
From
2004-2007, Tyson served as an assistant golf professional in his
hometown of Chesapeake,
Va.
THIEL TO REINSTATE GOLF PROGRAMS
Thiel College has announced its decision
to reinstate both the Tomcat men's and women's golf programs in
the fall of 2007.
W&J CROWNED 2007 PAC WOMEN'S GOLF
CHAMPIONS AFTER DAY TWO WASHOUT
Rain was the story of the day on April 25 at the
2007 PAC Women's Golf Championships at Oak Tree Country Club in West
Middlesex, Pa. The second round of the women's
championship was washed out by heavy rain, leaving first round leader
Washington & Jefferson the team champion and W&J freshman Leslie
Walker as medalist with a 76 in the opening round. Washington &
Jefferson coach Peter Coughlin was tabbed PAC Coach of the
Year following the event.
W&J RECEIVES VOTES IN TOP 25 POLL
The first Golf World Magazine/National Golf Coaches Association
Division III Women’s Golf Top 25 Poll of 2007 was released on March
7 and
Washington & Jefferson College was listed among “Others Receiving
Votes”. The Presidents collected six votes in the poll and were
one of 33 schools to earn at least one vote. |
