HAYS NAMED BASKETBALL ASSISTANT AT W&J (7/7/10)
Washington & Jefferson has hired 2009 W&J graduate and
former President athletic standout Emily Hays
as its new head women's tennis coach and assistant women's
basketball coach. Hays was the 2009 PAC Player of the Year
in women's basketball and ranks
10th in W&J history with 1,147 career points.
BRUNS TABBED AS NEW GROVE CITY HEAD COACH (6/15/10)
Grove City College
has named Michelle Bruns as its sixth head women’s
basketball coach. She replaces Sarah Harris, who
resigned after four years in the position. A 2005 graduate of
Southwest Minnesota State University, Bruns comes to Grove City
after working as an assistant master trainer/performance
enhancement specialist at the Army Center for Enhanced
Performance in West Point, N.Y. since January 2009. Prior to her
current position at West Point, Bruns spent three seasons as an
assistant women’s basketball coach. A native of Hecla, S.D.,
Bruns scored 1,645 career points during her playing career at
SMSU, earning Division II All-America Honorable Mention as a
senior, along with North Central Region Co-Player of the Year
honors.
TETZLAW TO HEAD PROGRAM AT KEYSTONE (4/28/10)
Washington & Jefferson women's basketball assistant coach
Katie Tetzlaw was recently named the head women's
basketball coach at Keystone College. Tetzlaw, a Bethany College
alum, spent the last three seasons as the top assistant with the
Presidents under head coach Jina DeRubbo and helped the
team to a 70-17 record (.805) and appearances in two NCAA
Division III Tournaments during that time.
HARRIS STEPS DOWN AS GCC HEAD COACH (4/14/10)
Grove City College head women’s basketball coach Sarah
Harris
has submitted her resignation, effective at the end of the
academic year. Harris recently completed her fourth season as
Grove City’s head coach and guided the Wolverines to a 12-14
overall record, including an 8-6 mark in the Presidents’
Athletic Conference. The Wolverines improved their overall
record in each of her four
seasons as coach. Harris earned PAC Coach of the Year and
D3Hoops.com Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors in the 2008-09 season.

Seven PAC basketball standouts (four men, three women) have
been named to the
2010 NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region Teams by the

The
women's slate saw 2010 PAC MVP Kennan Killeen of
Washington & Jefferson earn second team recognition, while W&J
senior teammate Maggie Gibson and Thomas More junior C
Nicole Dickman were each named to the third team.
WU'S LUCCI FINALIST FOR V COMEBACK AWARD (3/12/10)
Waynesburg senior
women’s basketball player Kristen Lucci
has been named one of 10 finalists for the 10th annual V
Foundation Comeback Award. The veteran Yellow Jacket
hoopster was selected out of a national pool of men’s and
women’s candidates from all divisions of college basketball. The
award is presented in memory of Jim Valvano, the late
basketball coach and ESPN commentator, whose personal battle
with cancer inspired the creation of The V Foundation. The award
recipient will be announced March 30 during ESPN’s basketball
coverage. In July of 2008, Lucci was diagnosed with Type 1
Arnold Chiari Malformation, a condition that caused her
cerebellum to grow down into her spinal canal. On December 15,
2008 she underwent Chiari decompression surgery which involved
having a piece of skull and C1 vertebrae removed. She returned
to school shortly after Christmas break, but endured a minor
set-back in February that hospitalized her until March. Since
then, Lucci has suffered no ill effects and made her return to
the court for the 2009-10 season.
SAINT VINCENT TAKES ECAC D-III SOUTH TITLE (3/7/10)
The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned the
2010 ECAC Division III Women's Basketball South Region
championship, following a
60-58 win over Juniata. Sophomore guard Emily Fenton
sunk a pair of free throws with 5.4 seconds left in the contest
to break the 58-all tie and sealed the victory. The Bearcats
close out a momentous season with a 23-5 overall record. In
addition to bringing home the ECAC title this season, the
Bearcats posted its 13th season with 20+ wins, as well as marked
its 500th win with the close of the regular season.
SAINT VINCENT ADVANCES TO ECAC D-III SOUTH FINALS; THOMAS
MORE FALLS IN NCAA SECOND ROUND (3/6/10)
It was a mixed day for PAC basketball teams in postseason
action on Saturday, March 6. PAC women's champion Thomas More
saw its season come to an end in the second round of the NCAA
Division III Tournament, as the Saints fell at home 80-64 to
Washington (Mo.). TMC closed the 2009-10 campaign at 26-4
overall with the loss. In the ECAC D-III South Women's
Tournament, the Saint Vincent women overcame a 15-point halftime
deficit to defeat Alvernia 74-69 in semifinal action. The
Bearcats will now host the winner of the other semifinal between
Widener-Juniata for the ECAC title at the Carey Center tomorrow
(Sunday, March 7) at 4 p.m.
PAC GOES 1-1 IN NCAA TOURNEY; TMC ADVANCES
(3/5/10)
PAC teams went 1-1 in the opening round of the 2010 NCAA
Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 5.
The victory for the conference came from PAC women's champion
Thomas More, which rolled to a 68-49 home decision over
Fontbonne. With the win, the Saints will now host Washington
(Mo.) University in a second round matchup at the Connor
Convocation Center on Saturday night (March 6) at 7 p.m. In
other women's action, a long scoreless spell was costly for the
Washington & Jefferson women, who were eliminated with a 71-48
loss to Mount Union in a first round game at Messiah College.
The Presidents closed the 2009-10 campaign at 23-5.
SAINT VINCENT WOMEN CAPTURE ECAC OPENER (3/3/10)
The 2010 basketball postseason got off to a great start for
the PAC on Wednesday night in the
ECAC Division III South Region
Basketball Tournaments. The women's game saw
#2 seed Saint Vincent top local rival and #7 seed
Pitt-Greensburg 81-71 to reach the semifinal round. The
Bearcats received extra good news as #8 Juniata upset #1 Lebanon
Valley, meaning Saint Vincent will host the semifinals and
finals in Latrobe Saturday and Sunday. SVC will face #6 seed Alvernia
on Saturday at 5:30 p.m..
TMC HOSTS FONTBONNE, W&J FACES MT. UNION
(3/1/10)
The PAC champion Thomas More College (25-3) women's team will be
at home this weekend to host three first and second round games
in the
NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, including
the Saints' opener against Fontbonne (18-9) Friday at 7 p.m. The TMC-Fontbonne
victor will play the winner of Washington (Mo.)/Maryville
(Tenn.) on Saturday. Washington &
Jefferson (23-4) received a women's "Pool C" at large bid and will
face Mount Union (24-4) in a first round contest at Messiah
College in Grantham, Pa. at 5 p.m. Ironically, the W&J-MUC matchup is a
rematch of the schools meeting in the first round of this year's
NCAA D-III Football playoffs. The winner will face the winner of
Messiah-Neumann in the second round on Saturday.
SAINT VINCENT WOMEN EARN ECAC D-III BID (3/1/10)
The Saint Vincent College women's basketball team has been
selected to participate in the 2010 ECAC Division III South
Region Basketball Tournament as the #2 seed. The Bearcats (20-5)
host local rival and #7 seed Pitt-Greensburg (17-9) on Wednesday
at 7 p.m. The weekend semifinals and finals will be held at the
top remaining seed after the first round. Saint Vincent could
host the weekend games with a win, coupled with a win by #8
Juniata over #1 Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
TMC WOMEN CAPTURE 2010 PAC HOOPS TITLE (2/27/10)
The 2010 PAC Men's &
Women's Basketball Championship
Tournaments concluded on Saturday, February 27, with the
top-seeded Grove City men and Thomas More women capturing league
crowns. The Wolverine men captured the seventh PAC men's
basketball title in school history and the fourth under head
coach Steve Lamie ('99, '03, '07, '10) with a 78-61
victory over second seed Thomas More at the GCC Arena. In
women's action, the top-seeded Saints ended the Cinderella run
of fourth-seeded Westminster with a 77-67 finals victory in
Crestview Hills, Ky. TMC has now won four consecutive PAC crowns
under head coach Brian Neal. Both PAC champions will now
receive automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Division III
Tournaments, with brackets scheduled to be released on Monday
(March 1).

TMC TO HOST WESTMINSTER IN PAC WBB FINAL (2/26/10)
The 2010 PAC Women's Basketball
Championship final is set following semifinal contests on
Friday night in Crestview Hills, Ky. The top-seeded and
three-time defending PAC champion Thomas More Saints had little
trouble advancing to the championship game, as they rolled to a
68-40 home decision over sixth-seeded Chatham, which was
making its first-ever appearance in the PAC Tournament
semifinals. However, the Saints' title game opponent is a
surprise, as fourth-seeded Westminster upset second-seeded
Washington & Jefferson
64-61 in the other semifinal contest. The two teams met for
the PAC title two years ago in 2008, when the Saints edged the
Titans 65-58.
2010 ALL-PAC WOMEN'S TEAMS RELEASED (2/26/10)
The 2010 All-PAC Women's
Basketball teams were announced between tournament semifinal
games tonight at Thomas More. Washington & Jefferson senior
point guard Kennan Killeen was named 2010 PAC MVP in a
vote of the conference coaches, while Thomas More mentor
Brian Neal garnered 2010 PAC Coach of the Year laurels.
PAC TOURNAMENTS GET UNDERWAY TUESDAY (2/23/10)
The 2010 PAC Basketball Championship Tournaments got
underway on Tuesday, Feb. 23 with seven first round games.
The women's slate saw #1 Thomas More clinch hosting
rights to the weekend "final four" with a
75-51 win over #8 Thiel. #2 Washington & Jefferson was nearly upset by #7 Bethany,
as senior PG Kennan Killeen hit a running layup with 4.4
seconds to play to help the Presidents edge the Bison
66-65. The
women's upset of the night came in Grove City, where #6 Chatham
earned its first-ever PAC Tournament victory with a
63-54
decision over the homestanding Wolverines. Finally, #4
Westminster edged #5 Waynesburg at home,
55-51. Friday at Thomas
More, W&J faces Westminster at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal,
followed by the host Saints against Chatham at 8 p.m. The
women's title game is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at TMC.
TMC WOMEN EARN PAC TOURNAMENT TOP SEED (2/20/10)
The PAC has announced the seeds and pairings
for the 2010 PAC Men's & Women's
Basketball Tournaments, scheduled for this week (February
23-27) at campus sites. The Grove City College men and the
Thomas More College women are the top seeds and will have home
court advantage throughout their respective tournaments. The
2010 PAC men's & women's basketball tournament champions will
each receive automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Division III
playoffs.
SLATER NAMED ECAC'S CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK (2/16/10)
Grove City College junior forward Christine Slater
was named the
Division III South Co-Player of the Week by the Eastern
College Athletic Conference's (ECAC). Slater averaged 20.5
points and 9.5 rebounds in two games for the Wolverines last
week. Grove City is 12-11 overall (8-5 PAC) and nabbed the No. 3
spot in the PAC tournament.
TMC, W&J REGIONALLY RANKED BY NCAA (2/10/10)
The
NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee released its
second 2010 regional poll today, marking Thomas More at No. 2
and Washington & Jefferson at No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region.
This week's rankings were determined by team records through
February 8 games. The rankings at the end of the season will be
used Monday, March 1 for selections for the NCAA Division III
Women's Basketball Championships.
TWO PAC CAGERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT (2/4/10)
Two PAC women's basketball standouts have been selected to
the
2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic
All-District Basketball teams, released today by the
College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). In District II, W&J senior F
Maggie Gibson was a first team selection who now advances
to the national Academic All-America ballot, while Saint Vincent

TWO PAC TEAMS REGIONALLY RANKED BY NCAA (2/4/10)
The NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Committee has
ranked
Washington & Jefferson and Thomas More, No. 2 and No. 3
respectively, in the Great Lakes in the first regional
rankings of the season. The rankings are compiled by the
committee then used to determine the field and seeding for the
2010 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The
Presidents and the Saints battle for the conference tournament
home-court advantage Saturday in Crestview Hills, Ky.; tip-off
is 1 p.m.
TMC, W&J REMAIN NATIONALLY RANKED (2/3/10)
The top PAC teams in Thomas More and Washington & Jefferson
remain nationally ranked in the Top 25 according to two national
polls. Released Tuesday, the
WCBA/USA Today
Division III Top 25 poll, Thomas More (17-2) moved up one spot
to No. 15, while the Presidents (also 17-2) jump two spots to be
tied at No. 18. In the
D3Hoops.com national poll, Thomas More remains ranked at No. 17,
while Wash. & Jeff. moved up a spot to No. 20. The two squads square
off for the final time in the regular season this Saturday, as the
Saints host the Presidents in Crestview Hills, Ky. for a 1 p.m.

Thomas More and Washington & Jefferson women's basketball teams
are both ranked in each of this week's national Division III Top
25 polls. In the
WBCA/USA Today
Division III Top 25 poll, the Saints (15-2) are ranked 16th,
down two spots from last week's #14 ranking, while the
Presidents (15-2) are tied for 20th, up two spots from last
week's #22 ranking. In the

THOMAS MORE-WAYNESBURG GAMES CHANGED (1/6/10)
Due to weather concerns forecasted for the Greater
Cincinnati and Western Pennsylvania areas this weekend, the PAC
basketball double-header between
Thomas More and
Waynesburg this Saturday has been moved from Crestview Hills, Ky., to
Waynesburg, Pa. The women's game will tip off at 1 p.m.,
followed by the men's game at 3 p.m. Additionally, the two teams
will face each other again Feb. 10 at Thomas More; women will
play at 4:30 p.m. and men will play at 6:30 p.m.

picked to capture the 2009-10 championship in the
Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), according to the
preseason poll released following the 2009-10 PAC Basketball
Media Day conference call. Voters in the poll included
conference head coaches, sports information directors, and
members of the media participating in the media day conference

WU'S JONES HONORED BY PAC SAAC (10/20/09)
The PAC has announced that Samantha Greenwood of
Chatham University and Elisha Jones of Waynesburg
University have been named
Scholar-Athletes of the Month by the PAC Student-Athlete
Advisory Council (SAAC) for October, 2009.
DRAKE NAMED INTERIM COACH AT GENEVA (9/24/09)
Renee (Freeman) Drake, a former basketball standout and
assistant coach at Geneva,
has been named interim head coach of
the Golden Tornado women's basketball program for the 2009-10
season. Drake replaces Ron Galbreath, who recently
retired due to health concerns after a coaching career which
spanned over 35 years and over 600 career wins. She was a former
assistant coach under Galbreath at Geneva from 2004-07 and most
recently served as head girls basketball coach at Western Beaver
High School. Drake, a 2003 Geneva graduate,
currently ranks ninth on Geneva’s all-time scoring list with
1153 points and sixth in career rebounding with 766 caroms.
GALBREATH RETIRES AS GENEVA HEAD COACH (9/15/09)
After more than five decades as a basketball coach, Ron Galbreath, Geneva women's basketball head coach since 2002, has
announced his retirement. Galbreath spent 25 season at
Westminster College coaching its men's basketball team prior to
his position at Geneva College. In his long and distinguished
career as a head coach at the collegiate level, Galbreath
posted an overall record of 634-192. He was inducted into the
Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
THIEL HIRES ZEUCH AS HEAD COACH (9/9/09)
Angela
M. “Angie” Zeuch
has been hired as head women’s basketball coach at Thiel College.
She replaces Artina Trader,
who resigned from the position in August. Zeuch takes over the
Thiel program after spending two seasons as an assistant at
Wesleyan University in Middleton, Conn. Prior to her stint at
Wesleyan, Zeuch spent three years (2004-07) as an assistant at
Division I Colgate University. A 2004 graduate of Case Western
Reserve University, Zeuch was a four-year starter and two-year
captain for the Spartans.

Jayme Thiem has
been recognized as
State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team Honorable Mention by
the
Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Friday
(March 20). Thiem is a two-time All-PAC first team selection who
led the PAC champion Saints to a 28-3 mark and an appearance in
the NCAA Division III "Sweet Sixteen" in 2009.

THOMAS MORE FALLS 67-51 TO #2
HOPE IN 2009 NCAA DIVISION III TOURNAMENT SECTIONAL
The PAC champion Thomas More College women's basketball team
saw its 2008-09 season come to an end Friday night (March 13)
following a
67-51 home loss to #2-ranked Hope College in the sectional
semifinal round of the
2009 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. With
the loss, the Saint season ends at 28-3 overall.
TMC TO HOST NCAA TOURNAMENT
SECTIONAL
Thomas More College will host the sectional semifinals and
finals of the
2009 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament this
weekend in Crestview Hills, Ky. The three-game sectional is
arguably the toughest in the nation, as all four competing teams
are ranked in the national Top 10 by both the
WBCA and
D3Hoops.com. The
opening game has unbeaten George Fox facing 2008 Final Four
participant Oglethorpe on Friday (March 13) at 5 p.m., followed
by the PAC champion Saints battling #2-ranked Hope at 7 p.m. The
winners of the two Friday contests will meet at TMC Saturday
(March 14) at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to the Division
III Final Four in Holland, Mich. next weekend (March 20-21).

57-50; SAINT CAGERS ADVANCE TO NCAA "SWEET SIXTEEN"
Senior G Jayme Thiem scored a game-high 22 points to
lead the Thomas More women’s basketball team to a
57-50 win over
host Messiah College in the second round of the
NCAA Division
III Women's Basketball Tournament tonight (Saturday, March 7) at
Brubaker Auditorium in Grantham, Pa. With the win the Saints
improve to 28-2
and will host the regional semifinals and finals this weekend
(Friday-Saturday, March 13-14). The Saints will play No. 2
ranked Hope College Friday at 7 p.m., with George Fox and
Oglethorpe meeting in the other matchup at 5 p.m. The two
winners will meet for the right to advance to the Final Four on
Saturday at 7 p.m.
THOMAS MORE WOMEN ADVANCE TO NCAA

now advances to face host Messiah, which advanced with an
opening round win over Eastern Connecticut State, tomorrow
(Sat., March 7) at 7 p.m. In other women's tournament action,
Washington & Jefferson saw its season end at 24-5 overall
following an 87-64 loss at #2-ranked Hope College in Holland,

be in action beginning with first round games on Friday (March

(23-5) at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. Washington &
Jefferson (24-4), which earned a Poll C at-large bid, will
travel to Holland, Mich. to face Hope (25-1). On the men's side,
PAC champion Thomas More (19-8) will play at Capital (24-4) in
Columbus, Ohio on Thursday or Friday. Specific date/time

ALL SAINTS DAY 2009: THOMAS MORE
COLLEGE SWEEPS PAC BASKETBALL TITLES ON FEB. 28
The top-seeded Thomas More men's & women's basketball teams
each captured PAC Championships on their home court on Saturday,
Feb. 28. The Saint women earned their
third consecutive PAC crown with a
59-49 win over
second-seeded Washington & Jefferson. In men's action,
the top-seeded Saints earned their
first-ever PAC title with a
91-65 defeat of second seed
Bethany. Both TMC squads have now earned automatic bids to the
2009 NCAA Division III Tournaments, with brackets to be
announced on Monday (March 2).
