BETHANY HIRES REGAN AS HEAD COACH
Sean Regan was
selected as the
new head men’s soccer coach at Bethany College on December
22. Regan, who owns coaching badges from the Irish Football
Association and United States Soccer Association, comes to
Bethany after serving as an assistant for three seasons at PAC
rival Washington & Jefferson. A 2005 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit
University, he helped the Cardinals claim two WVIAC regular
season titles (2001, 2003) and one conference tournament
championship (2003) as a player. Regan replaces Kosmas
Mouratidis, who resigned following the 2008 season.
THREE PAC KICKERS NAMES
ALL-REGION
The PAC placed three men's soccer standouts on the
2008
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Mid
Atlantic Region Teams, released on December 11. Westminster

PAC AWARDS TEAM
SPORTSMANSHIP HONORS
The Presidents’ Athletic
Conference (PAC) has announced the
Fall 2008 PAC Team
Sportsmanship Award winners. This new award is sponsored by
the members of the PAC Student-Athlete-Advisory Council (SAAC),
in an effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship
among the conference teams.
ELLWANGER NAMED ACADEMIC
ALL-AMERICAN
Westminster College men's soccer
standout Chris Ellwanger was selected to the
2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer
Team, as selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) on November 19. Ellwanger, a
senior defender for the Titans who earned second team honors for
the College Division, becomes the 23rd student-athlete in
Westminster history to earn Academic All-America honors dating
back to 1967 and
the first-ever Westminster men's soccer player to receive this
recognition. A physics major with a 3.77 grade-point
average, Ellwanger qualified for Academic All-America status
after earning first-team all-District II accolades.
ALL-PAC SOCCER TEAMS RELEASED ON
11/18
The 2008 All-PAC Men's Soccer
and Women's Soccer teams were
released on Tuesday, November 18, with the PAC champions in both
sports leading the award winners. On the men's side, senior
midfielder Garrett Horvath of PAC champion Westminster
was tabbed 2008 PAC Player of the Year, while Titan mentor
Girish Thakar was tabbed for PAC Coach of the Year honors.
On the women's side, the 2008 Player of the Year was senior
goalkeeper Jackie Foltz of leaguie champion Washington &
Jefferson, while President mentor Pete Curtis garnered
PAC Coach of the Year laurels.
PAC SOCCER TEAMS FALL IN NCAA 2nd
ROUND
Both PAC soccer champions were defeated in the second round
of the NCAA Division III playoffs on Sunday, November 16.
Westminster men's soccer
battled unbeaten and #3 ranked Montclair State through over
70 minutes of scoreless action, before giving up the game's lone
goal in a
1-0 defeat. The Titans close the season at 17-6. Washington
& Jefferson women's soccer
also suffered a second round defeat Sunday, as the
Presidents were ousted by Messiah
6-0. W&J closed the campaign at 15-6-2.
WESTMINSTER ADVANCES TO NCAA 2ND
ROUND
Westminster
men's soccer advanced to a second round showdown at unbeaten
Montclair State following a
2-0 home shutout of Hunter. The
Titans will face Montclair on Sunday at 1 p.m.
WESTMINSTER EARNS NCAA DIVISION III SOCCER PLAYOFF 1ST ROUND
HOME GAME VS. HUNTER
Westminster men's soccer
will remain at home for the team's first round NCAA
playoff game this week. The Titan kickers (16-5) will
host Hunter (11-7-2) at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Burry Stadium in New Wilmington
in the opening round of the
NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Playoffs. The winner of the
contest advances to Montclair State (20-0) for a second round
matchup on Saturday.
W&J EARNS ECAC BID,
HEADS TO FROSTBURG
Washington & Jefferson men's soccer has accepted a bid to the
ECAC Division III South Region Tournament.
The Presidents
will travel to Frostburg State for a first round contest at 6
p.m..
WESTMINSTER
CAPTURES 2008 PAC TITLE
Saturday, November 8 saw the
Westminster men's soccer team come away with its third PAC title
since 2002 following a
2-1 double-overtime victory over Washington & Jefferson.
Westminster clinched the victory on a rebound goal by junior
Ian Hill off a shot by classmate Brice Lott in the
102nd minutes of play. The Titans have earned the PAC's
automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division III playoffs, with
brackets and pairings to be announced on Monday, November 10.
PAC TOURNAMENT ACTION OPENS WITH
MEN'S SOCCER SEMIFINAL ROUND ON NOVEMBER 4
The 2008 PAC Men's Soccer Championship
Tournament is underway following semifinal contests on November
4. Top seeds Westminster and Washington & Jefferson advanced to
Saturday's title contest following narrow semifinal victories. The
top-seeded Titans raced to a 3-0 advantage, then held off a late
Grove City rally to defeat the fourth-seeded Wolverines
3-2. Second seed W&J needed overtime to defeat #3 Thomas More
2-1. The Presidents will now travel to New Wilmington to face
Westminster on Saturday at 7 p.m.
PAC ANNOUNCES
PAIRINGS FOR 2008 SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENTS
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) has announced the
pairings for the
2008 PAC Championship Tournaments in volleyball
and men's & women's soccer, which take place this week (Nov. 4-8)
at campus sites. Westminster College is the top seed for both
volleyball and men's soccer, while Thomas More College is the top
seed for women's soccer. The champions of all three tournaments
will earn the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
playoffs in their respective sports. NCAA Division III playoffs in
volleyball and soccer begin the week of November 10, 2008.

GENEVA SOCCER MOVES UP NCCAA POLL
It hasn’t been an easy road,
but it is certainly turning out to be a satisfying one for the
Geneva men’s soccer team. Coming into the week, the Golden Tornadoes
are sitting at 10-1, including victories in ten straight matches.
With the recent success, the NCCAA (National Christian College
Athletic Association) raters have been forced to take notice of that
overwhelming success. As a result,
the
Golden Tornadoes find themselves ranked 8th
in the most recent national poll for NCCAA Division I men’s soccer.

PAC Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October,
2007.
2007 ALL-PAC SOCCER TEAMS ANNOUNCED
The 2007 All-PAC teams for men's
soccer and women's soccer were
announced on November 8. Thomas More swept the Player of the Year
awards, with junior Garry Sheahan capturing the men's honor
and sophomore Brittany Yeggy earning the women's honor. W&J
swept Coach of the Year recogntiion, with Ian McDonald
receiving the men's nod and Pete Curtis capturing the women's
laurel.
FOUR PAC TEAMS POST 11/7 POSTSEASON
WINS
The PAC had a very successful opening night in several fall
postseason tournaments on November 7, with four conference teams
earning playoff victories. In women's soccer, PAC champion
Westminster
advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs
with a 2-0 home shutout of Manhattanville.
Grove
City was also victorious in the opening round of the ECAC South
Region Tournament, as the top-seeded Wolverine kickers edged #8
Juniata at home 3-2. In men's soccer action, PAC champion Washington
& Jefferson
suffered a 1-0 home setback to Penn State-Behrend in the opening
round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. In a battle of PAC
opponents, Westminster
advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC South Region
Tournament with a 3-0 first round home shutout over Bethany.
Finally, the W&J volleyball team also advanced to the ECAC South
Region semifinals, as the fifth-seeded Presidents posted a 3-2 road
win at #4 Lebanon Valley. Westminster women's soccer now travels to
face unbeaten and #2 ranked Messiah (19-0) in a second round game
Saturday at 1 p.m. All ECAC semifinal matchups will be announced on
Thursday (11/8).
PAC PLACES THREE TEAMS IN
POSTSEASON
Three PAC men's soccer teams have been selected to compete in
the 2007 postseason. The
Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team is also at home Wednesday,
as
the Presidents (12-5-3) host Penn State-Behrend in an
NCAA first round contest at Alexandre Stadium beginning at 6
p.m. Two PAC teams also will
meet in ECAC men's soccer action, as Westminster hosts Bethany at
7:30 p.m. at Wilmington H.S. Stadium.
W&J CAPTURES PAC MEN'S SOCCER CROWN
Fall Championship Saturday in the PAC took place on November 3.
At the end of the day, Westminster College had captured PAC titles
in both volleyball and women's soccer, while Washington & Jefferson
College came away with the men's soccer crown. In volleyball,
the top-seeded Titans swept #2 Thomas More 3-0
for the program's first conference title since 2002. Following the
match, the 2007 All-PAC Volleyball Teams
were announced. In women's soccer, #4 seed W&J jumped out to a 1-0
lead midway through the second half, but #2 Westminster rallied to
tie the score 1-1. After two overtimes, the
Titans captured the conference crown via a 3-2 advantage in penalty
kicks. Finally in men's soccer, #2 Washington & Jefferson jumped
out to a 2-0 lead, then held tight after #4 Thomas More halved the
lead to come away with a 2-1 victory. All
three PAC champions now receive automatic bids to next week's NCAA
Division III playoffs.
