Thomas More nets second-straight PAC men’s tennis title

ERIE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)-Thomas More College scored Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) titles in two singles flights and a pair of doubles flights to earn the league’s men’s tennis championship for the second-straight year Saturday afternoon at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
The Saints finished with 45 points in the nine-team, two-day flighted championship tournament. They won PAC titles at third and fifth singles and first and second doubles.
Grove City College finished as the runner-up with 38 points. The Wolverines won PAC titles at sixth singles and third doubles.
Washington & Jefferson College finished third with 35 points. Saint Vincent College was fourth with 30 points and was followed by Westminster College in fifth (21), Geneva College in sixth (17), Waynesburg University in seventh (12), Thiel College in eighth (6) and Bethany College in ninth (3).
Saint Vincent junior Jonathan Prichard (Harborcreek, Pa. | Cathedral Prep.) earned his third-straight PAC Player of the Year award after capturing the individual title at first singles. Prichard, the flight’s number three seed, posted a 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over Westminster College freshman Miguel Ascencio (Venetia, Pa. | Peters Township, the flight’s number two seed, in Saturday’s title match.
Prichard is the league’s first to earn PAC Player of the Year honors in three-straight seasons since Grove City’s Patrick Donahue (2001-03).
Geneva third-year head coach Mandee Craft was voted the PAC’s Coach of the Year.
By claiming the conference championship, Thomas More earned the PAC's automatic qualifying bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.
