PAC announces all-conference women’s soccer teams, annual award winners

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its All-PAC women's soccer teams and yearly award winners Thursday. Ballots for the all-conference teams and annual award winners were voted on by league’s nine head coaches.

PAC Player of the Year honors went to Grove City College senior forward Krista Heckman (Lock Haven, Pa. | Central Mountain). Grove City 26th-year head coach Melissa Lamie was voted the PAC Coach of the Year.

Heckman is the eighth player from Grove City to be voted the PAC’s Player of the Year. The league’s coach of the year award is Lamie's 11th.

Heckman is a two-time All-PAC selection (2nd team in 2017). She ranks second in the league in assists (10), third in points (28) and is tied for third in goals scored (10). Her six game-winning scores are tied for first in the PAC and rank 21st in NCAA Division III.

She totaled 13 points on six goals and an assist in eight regular-season conference matches this season. In 88 career matches (63 starts), Heckman has totaled 65 points on 25 goals and 15 assists.

Lamie has led Grove City to a 16-3-1 overall record this season. The Wolverines earned the top seed in this year’s PAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 2009, concluding the regular season with an unblemished 8-0 league record.

After battling third-seeded Westminster College to a 1-1 draw in last Saturday’s title match, the Wolverines edged the Titans in penalty kicks, 3-1, to secure the league title. It was the first title match to be decided by penalty kicks since 2012.

This year’s PAC championship was Grove City’s sixth, and first since 2001. Saturday marked the program’s seventh-straight title match appearance.

By virtue of claiming the PAC title last Saturday, Grove City earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship and will travel to Danville, Kentucky for the championship’s first and second rounds.

Fifth-ranked Centre College was one of 16 sites selected to host matches this weekend.

Grove City, making its fourth all-time appearance in the Division III Championship, will open with 20th-ranked University of Chicago. Grove City (16-3-1) and Chicago (13-4-1), last year’s national runner-up, are scheduled to play at approximately 1:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday. They will follow the day’s 11 a.m. (EST) match between host Centre (19-0) and the College of Wooster (13-3-3). The first round winners will play Sunday at 1 p.m. (EST) for the opportunity to move on to the sectional round, scheduled for November 16-18.

Washington & Jefferson College and Westminster were two of the 16 teams to secure an invitation to compete in this year’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Monday afternoon.

W&J (9-8-2) will travel to McDaniel College’s Westminster, Maryland campus to take on Pfeiffer University (12-2) Saturday at 2 p.m. (EST). The winner will advance to Sunday’s 12 p.m. (EST) second round match against the winner of the McDaniel (10-5-1)-Brevard College (11-7) match, which is slated for Saturday at 11 a.m. (EST).

Westminster (15-5-1) will travel to Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania to take on Alfred University (11-7) Saturday at 2 p.m. (EST). The winner will face either Albright (11-4-2) or Cedar Crest College (13-4) in Sunday’s 12 p.m. (EST) second round match.
