GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its All-PAC women's volleyball teams and conference award winners Tuesday. The league's nine head coaches determined, by vote, this year’s All-PAC teams and annual award winners.

Washington & Jefferson College senior middle hitter Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa. | Fort LeBoeuf) was voted the PAC Player of the Year, while Westminster College first-year middle hitter Becky Adelman (Mogadore, Ohio | Waterloo) collected the PAC’s Freshman of the Year award.

Lydic is W&J’s first player of the year since setter Jamie Gullen in 2005. The Presidents have had seven players honored with the league's player of the year award since the start of PAC women’s volleyball in 1985.

Adelman is Westminster’s second freshman of the year award winner. Outside hitter Rachael Cooper claimed the award in 2003.

PAC Coach of the Year honors went to Bethany College 12th-year head coach Courtney Kline. It is her third coach of the year award (2009, 2016).

Lydic, a three-time All-PAC selection (first team in 2017 and 2018), helped lead W&J to its first number two seed in the PAC Championship Tournament since back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006. This year was the Presidents’ fifth-straight trip to the championship tournament. After earning a quarterfinal bye, W&J fell to eventual league champion, third-seeded Bethany College, in last Friday's semifinal round 3-1. The Presidents finished the season 18-10 overall and went 14-2 during their league slate.

Lydic paced the PAC this season in blocks, totaling 93.0 (16 solo, 77 assist) in her 100 sets played. She also finished second in the league with a .291 hitting percentage (269-77-66) and sixth in kills (269). During her outstanding four-year career, Lydic registered 956 kills and 376 blocks (89-287). Her 376 blocks rank sixth among active NCAA Division III leaders.

Adelman had a terrific first season with Westminster, bolstering a Titan lineup that earned the top seed and hosting rights for the semifinal and championship rounds of this year’s championship tournament after posting a 15-1 PAC regular season record. Top-seeded Westminster fell in straight sets to Bethany last Saturday in the championship tournament’s title match.

Adelman finished second on the league’s blocks chart, totaling 86.0 (22 solo, 64 assist) in 117 sets. She also finished third with a .290 hitting percentage (197-55-490).

Kline led Bethany to its fourth championship match appearance in the last eight years. The Bison secured this year’s title after ceding just one set in its three championship tournament victories. Bethany was the first No. 3 seed to win the PAC title since 2013. Kline also led the Bison to their first-ever PAC title in 2016.

By virtue of securing this year’s PAC Championship Tournament title, Bethany (22-9) earned the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship.

Friday, the Bison will make their second all-time appearance in the Division III Championship, taking on 25th-ranked Christopher Newport University. Bethany will travel to Huntingdon, Pennsylvania for this weekend’s regional rounds. Sixth-ranked Juniata College (24-3), winners of 12-straight Landmark Conference titles, was one of eight regional sites selected this year. Bethany and Christopher Newport (25-5) will open things up at 12:30 p.m. (EST).

Westminster was one of 13 schools selected to compete in this year’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship Monday. The Titans claimed last year’s ECAC Division III Championship, the first as a member of Division III. Westminster is currently 30-3 this year, posting back-to-back 30-win seasons. Just four teams in school history have done so.
